Just like it should have assuming battery hadn't reached peak voltage yet. What was the battery voltage at the end of charge ?

I can't remember the voltage. But I can see a 6000 pack stopping at 4800 it stopped up 4800 because it was programmed to do that I don't think it monitor the voltage

Can't really expect the charger to do something it's not designed for. Don't know that you're doing yourself a favor though. 4800 to 6000 is a big variance. I don't know that you're actually charging the batt fully. Not really likely that a 6k would charge within 4800mah unless it had been charged earlier. You won't know unless you can check the voltage at the end. Do you always balance charge ?

Just a different view point:

When you say it stopped @ 4800mah, does it show you the amount of mah it put into it? I'm agreeing with previous posts in that the charger is just reaching the 4800 preset and stopping (although this seems high). What happens if you start the cycle again, does it take more charge?
Typically, a charger ramps up the current to your 5A setting, while watching the battery voltage and as it approaches 8.4v the charge current is decreased (this would be for a unbalanced charge). During a balanced charge, the process is same but it watchs each cell and discharges which ever cell's voltage goes up faster ie; balancing the cells voltages so you have maximum capacity.

Hope this helps

Out of interest, what are you guys doing that manages to take 5000mAh out of a lipo?

The most I've managed in testing etc before was around 4700-4800 before It had gone noticeably soft.

In a race run I only take out around 2200mAh (in 13.5)

The reason it probably won't let you start the charge again is that it's so close to being full it won't let you in case you overdo it.

Are you balance charging as well?

STAND ALONE BALANCER, i have an email into horizon over this ti find out more....

i guess my real question and to put it in an easy way.... if you charge ...whatever size lipo..once you hit that magic voltage....IS IT FULL?

the idea being a pouring a cup of water...once you fill it up...its full no matter if its a shot glass or big gulp

I would say YES. The charger 'sees' the voltage as the level on the 'glass'
What it's trying to do is figure out whether to fill the shot glass with a 5 gallon bucket or a measuring cup. cheers!

I 've charged my batteries and then tried to restart the charger. It starts, puts maybe 5 more mah in the stops.

In 1/12 mod i will usually put 5500 to 6000 back in the pack.

Yeppers !! Voltage is voltage. The batt is only designed for so much. If it's full, charging stops. The MAH you may see on the screen of your charger at that time is inconsequential. The stated MAH on the batt is based on a few different factors but with a full charge , using test equipment , at a given amperage draw rate, your battery should come close to that number.

Is all this helping ?

Something I thought my help. http://www.batteryspecialists.com/mah.htm
