Are tire warmers going to be a mandatory item? Or to phrase it a different way;

Are tire warmers the difference between a mid to bottom "A" run and a top 3 "A" run, or is it a difference between a top 3 "A" run and a "B" main run without? All other things being equal of course.

Any anecdotal info from last years nats? All the top ten were using them or was it a mix of haves, and have nots?

More important in mod than in the spec classes?

Thanks in advance! I would like to avoid being "Surikarned".....

Mike Slaughter <------ Would prefer to have them banned.... (Completely irrelevant to the above questions, just a personal musing....)
9/10

Less of having hot/warm tires just before the race but working the tire compound into rubber/insert. Without them you will get Surikarned. My guess is that those guys that got Surikarned have those nightmares once a week

There is a better video of this somewhere.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrvZeg3mYNI

Surikarn shows what tire warmers/sauce can do. Holeshots Masami and Baker at the Worlds many years ago.

The better video of it was quite amazing.

LOL, at the 2002 ISTC Worlds in South Africa Surikarn was the 1st person to effectively use tire warmers. Imagine the advantage of one car using warmers and no one else...this played a major role in him capturing the WC that year!

Thanks guys. Warmers ordered, I will now have one less excuse for my failure!

Products
------------------------------------------------------
1 x CTX-W IC Tire Warmers - Marc Rheinard Ver. (MMR MM-CTXWB) = $199.95

Delivery Address
------------------------------------------------------

I think I have the Gene Hustings DVD of the race at home. I will check and put a clip up if I do. IIRC it has some tidbits of a pretty gutted Barry Baker. Again Masami or AE (first Pavidis then Baker) came so close... This race put warmers on the map and put belt cars back on it.

Sorry for the stray bullets.

Can't wait to head down to Leisure Hours in the next week or so.

Wow...now I know there was no Iphone back in 2002, no wonder the video quality of the 1st video was so bad. I thought that was the indoor carpet racing at NIGHT at one point...

Holy....I have to add this word "Surikarned" in my dictionary. Too bad, Surikarn himself is not even close to any A-main for any major event after everyone figured out the "Surikarned" way.

Depending on tires and the track conditions, tire warmers may not be necessary. None of the mod guys used tire warmers at the nats at Jackson last year. I would say its 50/50 if you need them or not.

I disagree Hammy. I know Larry and EJ where heating. EJ took down round A3.

At the Reedy in the invite class they disallow sauce and heat because of the advantage it can offer. Sauce and heat is the secret weapon of outdoor asphalt.

Thank you. Basically I went for it. In the grand scheme of things for a few bucks I would rather have them than not.

If the thread was inundated with responses that they haven't been used in years, I would have taken the risk. Even at 50/50 odds I would have still ordered some!

Definitely interesting about the mod class. Maybe a gentleman's agreement?

The AE guys werent, and Howart won 13.5, and very arguably had the best mod car in the mains. Maybe they would have been faster with it. I think heat is more nessecary with a tweak style sauce, and less so w/ a FXII style sauce

Not true, additive and warmers weren't allowed this year in preparation for the Worlds. Last year to keep everything even we all used a control additive administered in tech. But there has been a slight change for this year...

It is like any form of racing. Good to have the warmers in your bag just in case.

Depends on a lot of factors. I would rather have them than not. If someone gets to a race just starting to figure out whether they should have brought them then it is too late.
