Default Speed Passion Combo VS Novak Combo for VTA racing

Hi there everyone,

I am trying to get my Team Associated TC4 ready for our club VTA series. We run 17.5t motors, spec tires and wheels and any esc. I am trying to decided between the Speed Passion Cirtix Series "Stock Club Race" ESC and Motor Combo (17.5T) vs the Novak GTB 2 Sportsman Brushless ESC/Ballistic Spec 540 Brushless Motor Combo (17.5T). Besides price, I would like to hear your opinions about each. I wanted to use an esc that would be legal for official USVTA racing rules if I get into a race following those rules.

Thanks again

Speed Passion is smoother to me, but the Novak seems to have more punch. Novak also has a ton more adjustability. The Novak can be adjusted onboard, where the SP needs a small programming box to adjust brake and drag brake (the only adjustments you have). I can't speak for the motors, as I do not think many clubs run 17.5 in VTA. 25.5 is the national rule set choice, and 21.5 is last years, and is still run in some places. Novak motors are the only option for 25.5, so the only choice is SS vs Ballistic.

I use the Speed Passion Club Spec ESC with their 17.5 BL motor in my TC3 and it's an excellent package. Knowing it sells for under $90 as a package makes it even sweeter.

Acctually trinity makes a 25.5 as well. But the only legal motor by the USVTA rule set is a novak.

Novak

plus getting the Ballastic, will allow you to just buy a 25.5 stator for $30 or so and goto the Snowbirds in Orlando or

THE 2012 USVTA+ SOUTHERN NATIONALS IN MUSIC CITY,USA in Sept

Im just saying go with the Novak and save

the speedpassion system is a great system, smooth, reliable and ultra inexpensive, BUT unless it is the spec system for everyone you will be at a disadvantage power wise.
the novak system, I haven't used that particular esc,(i use the novak Kinentic and SP pro) but I have been using the novak motor for quite a while now and like it very much, plus as stated before, if and when you decide to switch motors you only have to buy a rotor.

hint: it sure has been discussed on the speedpassion thread......

hey Richie, does this blinky stuff have anything to do with "hybrid drive" goin away? or not allowed?
