2012 R.O.A.R Carpet Nationals
#511
Three classes seems to be the magic number - The fast guys will still win and a new new middle class will emerge.
Maybe we should drop TC mod for this event and all race 17.5.

Remember the days when it was either stock or modified?

Steve,
Bummer you can not go. But i personally like the idea of blinky in everything, But i also think there needs to be a class in the middle. I am pretty positive that there is going to be a 10.5 class to be in the middle of mod and 17.5 . I think 13.5 will be going away on a national level, maybe not a local level but who knows. I think in the end this will be the best for everyone. People will adapt and hopefully it will grow.

I see people signed up for stock and mod TC. Not sure if that is a mistake or if it is allowed. I thought it wasn't so we might lose a mod guy there. I'll bring my 17.5 stuff in case the mod entries don't increase.

If manufacturers are going to pay for drivers to attend a race, why wouldn't they want them in the stock classes? You guys are crazy if you think stock results don't sell kits. There's payouts for stock classes from manufacturers, right? Clearly they've got the incentive.
A middle class gives everybody what they want. And it helps preserve the fallacy that stock is for amateurs.

I guess what I mean to say is that a middle class sort of implies a gentleman's agreement that you won't put your top guys in the slowest stock class.
That said, if I were paying drivers to attend races, I'd ask them to run every single class possible regardless of hurt little feelings. Wins are what matter.

ROAR 2010 rule book
Here is some food for thought.
These rules come from the 2010 ROAR rule book.
12.2.2 At any single Level 5 event, a driver entering the sportsman stock class may not enter in any other higher level of skill based class. For example: a sportsman stock may enter the touring car and 1/12th scale of sportsman stock but not the same classes of expert super stock or open modified. If a 2wd chassis class is only offered as expert super stock then the sportsman racer may enter that class.
12.2.8 Any driver who finishes in the top 20% (rounded up) of any Modified National will be barred from entering any Stock National class for the next year.
12.2.9 Any Stock National Champion may not compete in any ROAR stock National class for a period of 5 years. Vehicle genre discipline specific. For example, off road stock buggy national champ may not run off road stock truck but he/she may participate in on road stock nationals the next year.

Troy,
The first rule you quoted doesnt count because there is no "Sportsman Stock" class this year.
The other two I am sure have been updated. Your going off the 2010 rule book (only one provided since then granted) so I am sure the rules have changed a few times since then!
