How do you move guys from stock to mod....lets see, slow stock down, eliminate the intermediate class, and make the leap even farther! Does not seem logical, As someone who has recently decided that 1/12 Blinky 17.5 IS TOO SLOW and is trying mod, there definetly needs to be an intermediate class.

If there are too many classes then drop the fillers like F1 and VTA. This is the ROAR Nationals, it is not back yard bashing, club racing, or even a regional gathering. VTA has several of it's own 'National' races.

I'm sure Mike and the gang will do the best they can with what ROAR gives them to work with, but when is ROAR going to make the Nationals a National Caliber event.

If you guys are ROAR members and really want to get your ideas/opinions into the right ears, I would suggest you take some of your conversation over to http://roarracing.org/4rmb/. You have to be a member registered on the that forum to read and make posts. It's really the place to get answers that is followed by some of the region directors and executive committee.

Interesting what it all boils down to.

I can appreciate your thoughts on that.

Make the leap any further? You don't even need a different motor, "...17.5 IS TOO SLOW...", you're psyching yourself out. Example follows.

You can run ANY motor you want in mod, including the Blinky 17.5 Why then would we need an intermediate (3rd)1/12th class? At Vegas, the 1/12 17.5 TQ would have qualified 29th in 13.5, and 23rd in 1/12th mod. 13.5 TQ would have qualified 17th in Mod. If you can drive your 17.5, and it's feeling slow, and you can wheel, you could have dropped yourself at the top of the C in Mod, with the 17.5, as is, in Vegas. So what does the intermediate class really get a person? Run the same car you have in Mod, as is. Or go from Blinky to Boost. We're not talking about 245th place in the MOD "W" main. 17.5 theoretically finishing 23rd place in Modified. What do you need more mod practice for? 54 drivers in 17.5, wasn't a spread of 2 laps in qualifying from top to bottom it was 11 laps. That should tell a person 17.5 is fast enough that even on a national event stage, it's fast racing.

Go, and have a good time. You already have a car that is very likely capable of running in the mod C.

Am a ROAR member, for what it's worth, still awaiting the sanctioning permit # from the Regionals that was held LAST April, and then even after several direct Emails to sanctioning director and president never heard as much as a 'it's in the mail' doubt much more would come of the forum.

Cry babies. There's no middle class to run. Quit sandbagged and run mod. Not everyone gets to make the main at nationals. Earn it ...don't make the main because you paid your entry. I did that once.....it blew. Lame

How many people in this country have a legitimate claim at running mod? One? Maybe two guys? You guys are f*ing delusional about what mod is like on carpet tracks in the US. Follow the clubs, not your notions of what classes should be like based on speeds in the 1980's. Blinky 17.5 is 80's mod.

Default So...

So, I tried going to sleep but saw how far this thread has got derailed that I thought I should post something on it as a rep of Mikes.

This is a ROAR race, national level event, and ROAR sets the class structure. Not Mikes. Awd gave ROAR a list of classes that we at the host track thought would give the best possible race. As far as I know, it included 3 sedan, and 3 12th scale classes as well as a VTA type class. VTA has and will continue to be our biggest class on the carpet at Mikes. So, Im excited for those guys to be able to run the class that they like. F1.. eh, im not pumped about it seeing we lost the extra sedan and 12th class but from the growth of the class around here and around the country, I forsee it being huge.. much bigger than WGT. WGT on the other hand is a confusing pick. We haven't ran the class locally in over a year, if not longer and I have not heard much about it nationally.

To everyone whom these class choices may have affected, I really hope you guys come check out the world class facility, 3 star food from Dumas (cant give him 4 stars or his head would explode ), and enjoy the racing.

Off topic- If there are people that can take a few weeks off from work, we have the 10th Annual Bigfoot electric offroad race (over 200 entries expected, im guessing more towards 300) two weeks before. Im almost positive that there are some cross over guys that wouldn't mind getting in both great events.

Chris from you post I suggest you bring this to Andrew's attention for clarification on classes.

Being someone that has raced mod at Mike's I can say it's not all that tough. Yes cars can get stoopid fast, but the track is not huge, so this means you can be competitive with like. 7.5 with mild or no boost. This is just barely faster than a 17.5 boosted car.

I hate the fact that there are no more dynamic timing classes, but that has caused me to step up and run mod. I think that's what ROAR's intentions are.

Just my 2c.

Now, if I could only convince Adams to race mod... :P

I agree, but this is a whole 'nother can of worms.

I am starting to see why there are some parties who choose not to attend ROAR sanctioned races any more. I may or may not agree with those feelings and decisions.... but the fact remains, there is basically one large ROAR sanctioned carpet race and one large ROAR sanctioned asphalt race each year; the Nationals of their respective surfaces/venues.

Outside of ROARs umbrella, for carpet racing alone there is the IIC, Snowbirds, and US Indoor Champs... all of which seem to attract greater numbers of racers than the ROAR Nats. Then there is a handful of what I would consider more "Regional" level events that attract huge numbers and lots of talent.... The Halloween Classic, etc.

Outside of the debacle with the speedo settings for 17.5 12th @ the Indoor Champs this year(which I have read will be Blinky for next year like the other big races), the "Big" carpet races seem to abide by basically the same class structure. And this is exactly what on-road needs. It needs the big races to come to some sort of agreement on classing. The non-ROAR races seem to have finally converged on a classing structure for Sedan and 12th, which is great. It is a shame that ROAR chooses a different path...
