I don't blame Max for this because I would of done the same thing but maybe roar should of made him wait a split second before tucking in right where he was before he hit the wall and sent his car flying into the next lane??
This situation was covered in the drivers meeting. Drivers were told that IF you flipped over a board and the marshall could not get to you in time to wait and fall back into position. The rule book also states this and the rule is being reviewed. It was an unfortunate incident.

Gratz to both Tony and Kody, great race
Both Tony and Kody drove an awesome race. ROAR did not have the ability for video review and the decision wasn't taken lightly.

Then he did get a good launch up the infield straight with tony just a tad wide from all of his previous laps and did come up the back of Tony's Car but we all see what he IMEDIATLEY Did he waited...

But after giving the spot back it is Clear as day on the video that Tony Tapped on the corner entering the Chicane, opened a spot up, Kody with a nice tight line went for the spot (as any racer would) only to have Tony close back down and tangled with Kody.... sorry thatís the way it happened and Many, Many in the room saw it and had the same opinion.... quite a shame for Kody.

At any result it was an incredible race and a work of art with one skilled driver and killer F-1 car to be able to hunt him back down after a rough start being nearly a half a lap back...

Needless to say you will see some of the N.W. team heading south to a UF1 race soon for a rematch... Congrats to Tony and Kody for putting on one hell of a show
You left one important point out that a lot of people missed...and that was Tony driving full wood into the end of the straight away after the race because he was so pissed off that he lost (or got hacked, not sure which one).

Just part of racing I guess, but needless to say ROAR had to decide what the right call was. I think in the end it was a racing incident and the win should have gone to Kody, but the Referee clearly thought otherwise. It was a great race regardless and made for some exciting speculation afterwards.

It is really too bad that a national championship had to be decided by a ROAR official, but sometimes that is how it goes.

This is what is important. The rest of you guys should realize this as well.

+1000 Chris.

Regardless of the results, the race went smooth and ROAR and Mike's Staff did GREAT! There was 180+ entries, which is a good sign for on-road. Let's not forget this.

Incidents happen, and everyone will have an opinion of what coulda, shoulda and woulda happened. Unfortunately the decision is great for one and crappy for the other, but it had to be decided one way or the other. If the shoe was on the other foot, people would still come in and side for one side or the other. That's why there are ROAR officials at events making these decisions. Bob made a decision based on the information he had at hand and thought the outcome was fair. Let's not be selfish and ruin the event's memory by complaining about what "we" thought should have been the decision, regardless of side.

In the end the F1 class was a demo class this year. Perhaps this incident can be used to review rules for F1 and or other classes in the future relating to passing and Max's wreck relating to board flipping (although this was totally covered in the driver's meeting.)

Max did EXACTLY what he was told to do in the drivers meeting.

Hey James, very well said. If the F1 class was any other class, it would be a non-issue. However with an open-wheel class, like F1's, passing a car in front of you is a very delicate operation. Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe that this F1 race at a ROAR Carpet Nationals is the first F1 race at such an event in (Oh, I don't know) forever? Can somebody with more knowledge on ROAR Carpet Nationals history than me remember if/when there was an F1 class?

No matter what, IMO having a VTA class and an F1 class at a ROAR Carpet Nationals is nothing short of AWESOME!

It was definitely not clear because drivers were told to both wait for the marshal to put them back over the board and to wait until the car behind them passed and drop back in line. The marshal was right there to throw him over.

In my opinion jumping the board should be treated as though the car is stuck against the board it jumped over.

This was my first ROAR race I've ever attended. As soon as I heard from Andrew Doherty that there was going to be a VTA class in the 2012 Carpet Nats, I ran over to my laptop and signed up for membership in ROAR. I listened to stories from 5 or 6 local racers about good and bad experiences with past ROAR races. I must say that this year's ROAR Carpet Nationals was managed very well. The tech inspection table was run very smoothly. All the members of the RMT were very friendly and very helpful. The execution of all the races was managed very well. All together it was an A+++ experience for my first ROAR Race I've attended.
