WHY ANOTHER STRATUS? - simple, its a cab forward car. Makes for good handling while maintaining a semblance of realism.
No - the car doesn't have NASCAR Dodge headlights. Other than being a couple of mm shorter and lower, they are the same as the 2.0 headlights
Yes - I did fudge a bit on the front end detail. The real Stratus has a total of 7 cavities and grill openings. IMHO it was a little much, so I purposely left off the lower grill opening to get a cleaner look. I couldn't imagine anyone cutting all those decals anyway.
The (red) wing in the photos is actually even with the roof height however the spill plates are .062 too high. The wing in the photos is cut to the IFMAR/ROAR 20 x 40 mm height and cord length rule. The wing is molded a little oversized to give a tuning option to the novice thats racing on an unprepared surface.
Yes - the truck lid is low. Ironically, its virtually the same height as the Parma Alfa
The white wing in the one photo is the optional PROTOform molded wing.
Yes - the body is light in weight. Trimmed identically, it is 90 grams and the Parma Alfa I weighed was 93.7 grams
No - the trunk is not lengthened. Same as 2.0 & true to scale.
I left the side windows large because that is what many pro racers told me they liked.
This body was not a knee-jerk reaction to the competition. I simple thought that the Stratus could be improved for carpet racing. The Japanese companies offer A,B, & C versions of many bodies that are optimized for different track sizes and surfaces
This body does not reflect any of the shapes I have recently seen on any of the competitions newer body styles. The pattern was finished in August and them I went to the Worlds in late Sept. and I actually saw my first Parma Alfa in late Nov. at the Cleveland US Indoor Champs.

Proline is going to be shut down next week for their annual one week Christmas holiday. I know this will kinda mess with the shipping schedule on early orders.....but, thats the time of year we're in.

Have a very Merry Christmas! - Dale Epp - PROTOform
Awesome posts Dale. Very well said. I think "some" people are reading way too deep into this. Bottom line is you are a great designer and the new 3.0 is a bad boy.

Today we approved the Stratus 3,0 for racing in Sweden from Feb 1, 2005.

As the BRCA has not approved the Mazda 6 for racing in the modified class, there is no doubt the stratus 3 will not pass either (not even sure if the distributor will even bother submitting it).

Either the BRCA need to change its policy and follow the other ruling boies, or they need to have them change their policy, but as things are Uk drivers are prevented to use the best shells at the highest national level and that's a shame.

The thing I'm curious about is what Full size race organization are we supposedly following here??? SCCA allows both 2 door and 4 door cars in the touring car class.... Let's either follow real cars to scale or not... Not this inbetween bs.....

Or how about the fact that Alpha Romeo doesn't even import cars to the US anymore....

There ARE other countries on the globe than the US, and they have cars, and they race those cars...

Really? Thought it was just us...

I'm just quetsioning why we have what we do... ROAR is the american sactioning body, you'd think we'd follow SCCA TC's....

How about TC's run stock, GT's run 19 turn and GTP's run Mod... Just like the real world..... All on the same track too....

Didn't mean to sound so harsh, but traditionally the various RC rules blocs don't differentiate between the racing in their own country and the racing in other countries.

JMRCA allows the Stratus, ROAR allows the Alfa, etc.

I've always been of the view that the bodies should be outwardly the same as actual race cars. That is was ROAR rules say after all. The new Stratus and the new-new Stratus simply have never been raced except on oval. If you want to get really sticky you can count the NASCAR road races as actual road races but in the touring car class I don't think that would count

If ROAR and IFMAR and other voting blocs impart a rule that bodies must represent cars that have been raced in the last 5 years (in addition to following the proportions of the actual car) it will be nice IMO to get fresh bodies in the racing scene while forcing out the Alfa, Stratus and other old bodies. Why not get the CLK DTM, TT DTM, Impreza and other bodies on RC tracks?

because those bodies wont work.

Personally, i am all for running different bodies. Unfortunatly I am not a "run my car in the street" type of guy, so I want the best handling body, not the best looking.

its arguable from every side. We need bodies that handle well- we need realistic bodies- we need bodies that are raced in real life... blah blah blah...

I agree we do need set guidlines as Dale came up with. Unfortunatly, we dont have them.. and until someone does implement these ideals we will continue to have these conversations.

I have an idea... How about we open a new office.. ROAR body commisioner. His sole job would be to regulate and approve bodies.

I volunteer for this position- having friends at 3 of the major players (PF, parma and CEFX) I can provide a non biased judge of all submitted bodies.

Default RC Body Confusion

Hey Guys
Not trying to confuse matters more, but I figured I'd just throw this out as food for thought.
Have you see the current generation of 4 dr sedans running in the DTM Series. Wow! They don't look like "Angry Dale" bodies, they look like "Dale on Crack" bodies. Unbelievably radical - flares, wings, deflectors, flippers, winglets, strakes, splitters, vortex generators - like an F1 car with fenders. Did it hurt that series in any way to let it go that direction. No it would appear, not one bit. Every venue on the circuit has a sellout crowd. Standing room only at the famous 'Ring! Equal ticket sales to when the F1 circus is there. And Shumi's not even there! (Nurburgring is in Germany)
Makes you wonder if there is'nt a lot of race fans out the who actually like "radical" bodywork. (so long as the Audi's and Benz's are still distinguishable) I'm NOT saying that I think rc bodies should all be DTM style, however we should be openminded as to the fact that we all have different ideas as to whats acceptable and what's "cool". I think this DTM series is evidence to that fact.
Check out this link.

Once a get a little work done, I'll share a few of my views on product sponsorship - for whatever its worth. Its another topic I accidentally got started here on RC Tech.

Have a great day - Dale Epp - PROTOform

PS: there have only been 2 so called "Angry Dale" bodies to date. A MonteCarlo stock car and a recent 12th scale body. It was just a pretty funny name someone gave those bodies - think it was Barry. Either way, I'm generally a pretty happy guy - just a little intense at times. This is my livelyhood so I tend to take it seriously.

Realism is overrated. When was the last time you saw a "Real" race car run on foam tires?

We run what we run because it's fast...if you want to be realistic, buy a Mini Z or run the TCS.

We need to regulate our racing..no GT no GTP. Racing left unchecked gets out of control and destroys itself. Sedans bodies are one factor that made these cars popular. We need to keep that.

Regarding ROAR...The only was to fix ROAR is for people to become ACTIVE menbers. Menbers that are involved in the running of the orgnaization and vote.

If that dosen't happen (probably won't) we need a new organization. A corporation like NASCAR or the AMA (Motorcross). The goal of the organization is to promote R/C Racing in North America.
