Rubber tires are still around basically for concrete surfaces. Not all the clubs have the luxury of having an asphalt parking lot to race upon. One of the club track I race upon is rough concrete. We experimented with foam tires and ate up a set in one qualifying run (5 minutes of hard running)!!! Also, foam tires, even treated with traction compound, just will not give you any traction on concrete. Foams on concrete are good for drifting if that is your cup of tea but just will not work on most concrete surfaces. You can use rubber on carpet but have to set up your car radically different than you would with foam tires.

I undertsand that the rest of the world runs rubber tires, The entirety of the midwest, as well as the majority of the Northeast can hardly be summed up as a few regions.

I look at it this way, the most HIGHLY ATTENDED Carpet ROADCOURSE only race ON EARTH is Foams only. Kinda makes you wonder doesn't it?

Better yet, when was the last time you saw a 2 door Taurus or Intrepid?

Real Cup racing is even more ridiculous than R/C.

Or rear wheel drive? V-8 option? When did the Monte Carlo, Intrepid, and Taurus start coming with a Ford 9-inch rear end and '65 Galaxy front suspension?

Common template bodies aren't necessary in R/C racing, as we don't have telemetry available to measure out every last mph or lateral-G.

However, it might be a good idea if the major sactioning bodies decided upon just a few max/min values. I'm suggesting limits to the front windshield rake, trunk height, roof width, etc. Allowing a range of values for these dimensions gives the designers room to work their magic. As it is, there are already a few rules that do this without any complaint from the masses (ie: max wing height even with roof line).

I agree that normal road going car replicas (ie: many HPI TC sedans from the first few years) are not good looking at speed in a 1/10 scale environment. Whereas the current generation of TC bodies look great, expecially with the paint industry stepping it up in recent years.

Furthermore, since 1:1 TC teams are allowed to masage the body quite aggresively, our body designers should be allowed to do the same (as they have been). The only limit to this masaging should be to prevent situations like funny car dragsters. Limitations should be done in such a way as to still permit the evolution of the shell from one year to the next.

p.s.-Protoform rocks!

Actually we do have telemetry to do this. I know Yokomo (Masami has done this). Plus you have a few things that "we" can buy. Eagle Tree for example.
