As for the title of this thread....

F1 and tamiya mini is now the new shortcourse for me. I am burned out on SC and the high cost to keep it going. Hopefully f1 will be as "fun" and not so serious and expensive(yeah, right, lol). Mini has been alot of fun and hopefully f1 will be too. We'll see...

Thats what i dont understand.
When I ran SC i had atleast 10 sets of tires to be competative at Leisure Hours?
F1 you need 2 coupound rubber tires. Or a pair of foams that are cheaper in the long run unless ou true them down and have short lifed tires.
F1 chassis is cheaper.
F1 you dont need a boosted ESC.
F1 cheap motor.
SC $150 speedo
SC $250 chassis
SC $ $100 motor
TO me it seems like F1 is cheaper then any SC class ran at local tracks.

Default Cost

It is definately alot cheaper then SC.

200mm
F109 or FGX $130
Silver Can Motor $15
Cheap Brushed ESC on Ebay like Venom $25
Cheap 2s Lipo 25C Hobbypartz $35
Cheap Flysky Radio from Hobby partz $35
CHeap servo from Hobby Partz $15
Total $255 Ready to Run(Add $40 for FGX for tires)

For 180mm F104, it's about $40 extra(Ferrari kit or Mercedes is about $170)

If you go brushless with a Citrix 21.5 Combo from TQRC, add $60 to the cost($100 for the setup)

Well I've been talkin to a friend here at the office and I think I might give a few of the winter races a try. I found a car, batteries, charger and radio...I'm working on a body thanks to BP. Just remember, you guys invited me. I'll start now with, sorry for the bent lexan...it's been a while.

Yeah, the cost of replacing broken/worn parts was really what put me over the edge. SC tire prices are way high($70 a set now) and they wear out fast. cost of bearings, broken parts, worn parts, oils, hop ups, etc.. It was costing me 40-50 a practice day, and 100+ on race days. i had well over a grand into my sc truck and there's no way i'll be even close to half that with the f1 even if I get serious into racing it.

Yeah they are a lot cheaper than anything else I have run. And they are a lot more durable than people think. Parts are cheap too. Tires and bodies are the biggest expense. And they aren't that bad. You don't need a lot to be fast. I don't race F1 for the speed, I race because of the scale looks and the fun. I have 2 F109s and hopefully soon an FGX. Want an F104X1 as well. I look forward to the influx of interest in F1 and more opportunities for racing them. It's a fun class, it catches peoples interest, and its not so fast as to be intimidating to new people.

Speaking of keeping things cheaper... Our last UF1 race at TQ, we had 21 guys running in the Realistic class... Mike Kennedy won all three races in a basically stock F104... a few minor hop-ups with Shimizu 0571 / 0572 rubber, that's it... With basic equipment, you are competaive... It just becomes the driver... and they look so friggin cool with a realistic paint scheme

With the US gaining two F1 races in the next year and a half (Austin and New Jersey), hopefully this will drum up some interest in the RC version of F1.
