Axiom motor review
 

We just did up a review of the new stock motor from Axiom Racing Motors. This was a sweet motor and worth checking out. Read the complete review at:

That's a good review. I would expect your numbers to be different, because you CAN NOT compare numbers from different brands of dynos. It simply doesn't work. Reason being, the calculations may be slightly different, setup might be different, and even a flywheel with a slightly higher mass will make a difference.

Over-all though, good review, I might get one, I need a new motor.

Agreed, we always try to run a dyno test to see if the numbers are completely out of line. They normaly are within a small amount of variation which is acceptable. What matters anyway is the performance on the track and there the Axiom really shows it's stuff.

I agree, I have a P2K from them and it is very fast...Hoping to put my Schuie in 1st with it this Friday :)

This line from the review concerns me:

"The Axiom stock motor starts with a P2K can but adds an epoxy balanced armature and then is dyno tuned for maximum performance."

This is from the 2001 ROAR rule book:

"5-44: Epoxy balancing of armatures for rebuildable stock motors will not be permitted"

Is the review mistaken, or is the Axiom illegal for ROAR events?

And, out of curiosity, how does one check to see if an armature has undergone this process?

Just something I have never even heard/thought about before.

In the "Cons" section... It says it doesnt come with a diode. Not one motor that i can think of comes with a diode..

Please correct me if i am wrong..

You can spot an epoxy balanced armature by looking at the windings. If you see grey epoxy stuck to the wires and no drill holes in the steel stacks, that's an epoxy balanced arm. If you see balancing holes drilled in the stacks and no grey epoxy anywhere on the wires, then it's a drill balanced armature.

I will verify all of that. It could be I made an error since I had both the stock and mod motors being used at the same time. If the stock is not balanced, I will correct the article. Thanks for pointing that one out.

As far as the diode, I have made the same comment about every motor. Since the motor manufacturer recommends soldering a diode directly to the motor, it makes sense to have it included if not even pre-soldered. Every ESC I have had came with capacitors and yet most motors are now coming with capacitors pre-soldered.

Well, you will see a big difference between the numbers on different dynos. The best thing to do is save previous tests of other motors and compare it to that, the robi has a very nice thing for doing this ;)

i got 2 axiom's from a driver and they are sweet!!!:)

I believe the article was mistaken, only the mods are epoxy balanced. I have run Axion Motors for over a year and have had great success with them. For more info check there site http://www.axiommotors.com
