Default Replacing Receiver Antena Wire

Don't know if this is the correct forum, but I've thrashed my receiver antena wire and it looks like it could break with a good tug. I suppose losing contact could result in a nasty crash.

Opening the receiver case, it looks like an easy replacement job.
I know the length is important - what about the exact guage of the wire?

Any suggestions on this repair before I warm up the soldering iron?

TIA

Default Maybe I'm just cheap

I suppose I could ship it to the repair facility, but it looks simple to me......the LHS actually sells replacement wire, so before I drop $60 on a new receiver, I'll see if I can fix it, and splicing isn't an option.......I know that's a failure waiting to happen!

What brand receiver is it?

I've replaced many Futaba receiver wires in my day. Just solder new ones in and cut to spec. Very easy and actually is a good time to clean out that receiver and casing because dirt and junk collects and causes glitching.

Here's what it is: Futaba Receiver Antenna Wire 1100mm
and a link

Thumbs up Best Solution - Reinforcement

I just got a call from a buddy who suggest slipping some 1/16" shrink tubing over the wire to reinforce the antena between the receiver box and the tube on a NTC3.

He said he has broken a few receiver antenas from the stress
between the box and the tube.

This may not be an issue for electrics - but nitros are a much harsher environment on delicate wires outside the receiver box

just my two cents

Good idea, but if your current receiver antenna has any nicks in it then you need to replace it. Nicks results in glitching and poor range....not good with nitro cars.

Just get the wire that is suggested above and cut it to lenght. Then shrink wrap it so it won't get cut again. I've replaced 3 antenna wire with the futaba wire on my novak recievers. I haven't had many glitching poblems.

Talking Probably saved a bad crash!

Thanks guys for your feedback - probably saved a bad slap in the boards or a runaway - I'm using an electronic "saver"
that shuts down the motor with interference or a bad battery
the shrink tubing on the antena is another good pit trick.

thanks

just an FYI - the guage of wire does not matter - you can use 24 guage wire and you'll be fine.

Length matters !! Not tha roundth !!

Acr R/C products and Sig have wire assortments in the correct guage to replace your antenna wire. Just cut it to the correct length. Heres a bonus too!! The wire assortments come with several different colors so you can choose what color your new antenna wire will be.

Brant

ACE R/C part number-- 520 Hook-Up Wire
SIG part number--SH-328 Hook-Up Wire

They each come with eight different colors each in 3 foot lenghts.

Speedie-- We have many more good sayings such as that down here in Arkansas. LOL Example: Didja and yawnto. I'll use it in a sentance; Didja eat yet? Naw.....Yawnto?
Yea, I stoll that one from Jeff Foxworthy. Its still funny especially when you can hear it from time to time in real life!

I did fixed my futaba pcm 1024 receiver with slightly thicker wire (read: slightly thicker wire). The exact lenght of the wire, maybe 35 cm or little bit longer than the original. I pulled the wire from a Fan wire PC Computer.

It works okay, no problemo.

Just be careful when you solder the new wire to pcb, it's delicate factor. You need good small & clean solder tip & solder flux to make the job well done.
