That's funny, we don't really listen to him either!

Personally, I like having fun/loud announcers. It makes the race so much more exciting. Every once in a while I'll bring my CD player on the stand or I'll be concentrating so much that I don't hear the announcer or anyone else (Usually only when I'm in the lead or right on the leader). Just imagine watching a NASCAR race without DW announcing. You'd hear someone that sounded like the guy from the clear eyes commercial saying "And they've started. Number 8 is in the lead. 24 has just hit a wall (.)" Boring huh?
And on another note - A big race just isn't a big race w/o Scotty on the mic. I was at the worlds for the 1/10th mains and the announcing was aweomse wtg!

Ive known and raced many races where scotty was the anouncer.. the main thing i love about his style.. is he calls all the position battles on the track.. weather it be first and second duking it out, or 9th and 10th.. i think it makes u drive harder, know how close u are to a position jump....

i also love the fact that he watches the lap times in qualifying... if u are faster then a guy in front of you, and you are coming up to pass.. he will let you and the slower car know.. he will say the car comming is faster, and then they give u a good line to pass.... this makes for alot better qualifying, ive been to races where no one says anything.. then u keep trying to pass a slower car, and all he does is hold u back from a good run..

being as well informed on the track of your position, pace, takes alot of stress off trying to see how well u are doing...

You haven't lived until you've heard Scotty and Barry Baker tag team announce a race. Hilarious! Thank God I wasn't actually racing in that class, or I'd have missed something special.

Personally, if you're not into that style of announcing, buy some ear plugs.
