I say let em rock the house! nothin better than hearin em screamin about a good battle on the track, (he's on him like a dog on a piece of meat) (there so close you could through a blanket over em) etc. most of you say you do this for fun? in my opinion the announcer helps make it fun, even if your having a bad day, ( so & so have cooked more motors than home town buffet! half a lap to go can he finish it on 3 wheels! if you dont like the announcer go bash at the park by yourself!

I agree, man. There's nothing better than the rush you get when the announcer calls out your name at a race because you've either made a great move or are running really good lap times. It's a great motivating tool. When I hear Scotty announcing a race of mine, I kinda feel a great priveledge knowing that this guy has announced some of the biggest races in the country and now he's calling my name? I don't find it distracting at all. Club racing, big time racing, whatever, I like a good announcer and so does the crowd. And Scotty is the best, in my opinion. I announce for our local track, and I can't tell you how many times I have gotten compliments about the announcing and how the racers appreciate being given important information about lap times, position, etc.. especially during qualifying. I haven't yet recieved a genuinely negative statement regarding my announcing, and I don't believe I have ever heard ANYONE complain about announcing in general. I must have forgotten why this thread was started in the first place! My $.02

How would you feel is no one is there to let you know whether the car behind you is the lap leader (you need to let him pass you know?) or someone who is fighting for position with you?

How would you feel if your gonna lap a guy in front of you but he closes the door everytime because he thinks that your fighting for position with him?

A race commentator is there to make the race fun and exciting for the drivers, marshall, mechanics, spectators and etc. Some people complain that they cant concentrate during the race when their name is announced almost all the time. But hey, its an honour to have your name keep on mentioning by the announcer so that everyone at least knows whos faster.

Would you like a race where the commentator is talking like a guy on Discovery Channel or a sports commentator from ESPN ? You choose.

Just my 0.02

In the clubs I've belonged to it was always...

"If they're good enough to lap you then they're good enough to pass, don't give up your racing line for anybody!"

Yes I've had it happen to me and been on both ends of the equation.

The chatter (if any on the stand) between what ever two that were involved usually went something like....

"I'll take the outside line down the straight if you can't get me then too bad."

Nobody had a problem with it, what goes around comes around etc etc. There was none of this making it easy stuff.

However a racer driving like a mobile chicane was another story!

Some I like to hear, others I cant stand, but either way they can take my attention away from the race, so I just wear my mp3 player on the stand.

Talk about it. But everyone has been there before. So sometimes its still forgiveable.
