Thanks so much for your explanation of the acronyms. I am doing my best to learn this stuff and it is people like you that are helpful!! If you have any 2 stroke questions, I am happy to return the favor :-).
If you have not run the 4.5 take it back and swap it for a higher wind that will be more suitable for your skill level. If you can handle it then t3 and 4.5 will be a racing rocket

I"m generally very confdent in myself, but not stupid. I trust the people that have experience. My thought is to either just stop out my throttle a bit or get a 17.5 and keep the 4.5 on the sidelines until I could take her out. I am more into bashing cars (I know I can't bash this) so doing some runs with cones in a mall parking lot will be like an Indi race to me.

I did mean to offend, I only gave a word of caution, only you know your skill level. A 4.5 is drivable (too much for me other than in a straight line). Not sure what the top speed of a 4.5 would be or how fast it gets there but I would guess between 70-80mph at 60yard, thats pretty quick for a 1/10 scale, infact thats pretty quick full stop.

I would return the Tekin and the motor and replace it with an ESC that's more suited to low wind motors. If you're just planning to zip back and forth in the parking lot as fast as you can and do doughnuts, strap all the motor you can afford in there and don't hit anything. You'll wear out drivetrain parts faster, but that's true of any car.

I'd look for an ESC/motor combo from Hobbywing. It'll have way better power delivery than the Tekin, shouldn't overheat, and is fine for racing down the road if you decide to go that route.

Something like this would be a better choice: http://www.hobbypartz.com/3-5t-3650-...-120a-lcd.html

I'd be wary of advice given by anybody that thinks Tekin with a mod motor is a good choice for on-road. For stock, no doubt, but you'll melt it with a faster motor, and the throttle is going to feel like crap.

bucketboy - no, you did not offend me at all. I welcome any and all comments. I mean, based upon what I am hearing from people, it sounds like my esc/motor combo is too hairy.

I appreciate all of the feedback!

Actually I don't recommend to drive your outside a track. Small rocks and debris gets in the belts and you'll destroy them pretty quickly. On racetracks, there's almost no dirt besides some dust.

For bashing, why not a 4.5? If you are running in a parking lot or other open places (i.e. not on a track), 17.5 would probably be boring.

And it's not like you can't make a 4.5 work on a race track either! What about open mod where we are running 4.0-5.5t motors WITH boost? And I run the same boosted 5.0t whether I am on a 60' carpet track or a 200' asphalt nitro track.

That's probably the best combo in the business. Small, fast in spec mode, fast in boosted mode. The new software will supposedly smooth out the throttle, too.

thanks syndr0me. Tehnic - are you being sarcastic? Seriously? I would love (one day) to get into on track racing. I just wanted to get a good car and setup to do speed runs, turns (not tight like you guys at the trac)...but I heard the 4.5/esc tekin combo will overheat too fast all of the time. I don't mind if it is a beast...I just won't attempt to take her in small places at first etc...

Getting ready to wire up my 2012 w/Savox 1251 (low profile) and Tekin RS Pro. Anyone else have a similar setup? I'd love to see shots of how you wired everything.

I have a savox 1251 with an ORCA ESC. With a Tekin there would be a ton of room to wire it however you want. Even with my somewhat large ESC, there's plenty of room to fit everything. I posted a pic of my setup here on page 29. On page 28 jgraham posted some pics of his setup with a tekin, a low profile servo(looks like a bls551) and a boat anchor of a futaba receiver.

I run a KO2413, mirco spektrum RX with a Tekin and there is so much space left over you could put another ESC in there...

Pic Rob?

I'm very particular about my wiring. Have the TQ 13 gauge and Servo wires coming. Going all stealthy.

I completely believe, "If you can't be fast...at least be pretty".
