Thanks much for the replies guys. Well it is already done really. My question is, can I tame the motor down 'for now'? I take it that boost is the same as a mod motor? Trying to get used to the acronyms. I plan on really racing around the tennis courts, going to some smooth parking lots etc - that's it for now until I could figure out how she drives.

I'd say don't use any timing, set the current limiter to 70% or maybe lower (I don't know if that's an option on the 1/10 ESC's, but I think so).
Use expo on you're throttle channel and turn down the EPA. But I think it's more difficult to gear correctly with a turned down motor than with a normal motor.
I have no clue why the guy of you're LHS suggested a 4.5T for a beginner.

Does the 2012 come with the upper shock caps that have a hole pre-drilled for easier rebound adjustment.

Thank you. I guess I'm a little surprised too. I think because they know I have been 'over the top' with my other cars, they tried to match my personality. I will have to gather more info from the group on how to tame this thing down big time and go from there. Thanks for all of your help thus far.

I have to ask. Angelblade, what do you plan to use the car for mainly?
By the way.. Boost refers to advanced timing. Blinky refers to zero ESC timing.
Mod motors are motors with less than 10.5 turns.
A 4.5 is very fast and draws a ton of power. It will tend to overheat a Tekin if you run it for more than a few minutes at race pace. Using 2 or more capacitors is recommended to lessen the likelihood of thermalling your ESC. Tekins are awesome for boosting a higher turn motor like a 17.5. They are not an ideal choice for a mod motor. Despite this they offer combos down to 2.5. I never understood why they do that.

Locked - at first I plan to just run speed runs, etc on the asphault and was hoping I could seriously tame the motor down so I can learn how the xray handles. If you are telling me this thing will overheat the esc out of the box and they sell it as a combo, I am at a loss as well! Do you know if I can tone down the motor big time with this combo? Thanks so much for your explanation of the acronyms. I am doing my best to learn this stuff and it is people like you that are helpful!! If you have any 2 stroke questions, I am happy to return the favor :-).

You can tone it down with lowering the endpoint as was suggested above and if you are really gentle on the trigger, you'll be fine. I'm guessing you have a temp gun. Keep it handy if you are going to do a few speed runs. Both the motor and ESC will warm up pretty fast. check the temps often.
a Tekin could probably be used for mod 2wd buggy with a low turn motor and be totally fine. That's probably why they sell those mod combos. 4wd TC tends to be a bit harder on the equipment though.

got it...so basically lower the throttle endpoint control. Thanks a bunch. I will also add another capacitor just in case and get a few pinions to try out. I do have a temp gun since I use it with my 2 stroke stuff. Thanks a bunch.

Running a reduced endpoint will reduce the power sent to the motor making it slower. Not sure if you are prepared to spend more money, or if Tekin even offers them, but you may be able to put a 17.5 stator in the can making it a 17.5 motor. You could then put the 4.5 in for the times you want to open it up and go crazy fast.

well at this point being about 1500 bucks in, maybe I will just buy a 17.5 ?
