I commend someone for trying it but I bet it weighs a ton. Plus all the car needs to be balanced perfectly is to have the pack moved toward the center.

As heavy as that thing looks, he could have just used a stick of lead to get a 50/50 balance.

i really doubt the 2nd one will be fast around the track, the CG of the car would be quite high as the shaft needs to clear the batteries n this will raise the shaft and as a consequence raise the gearboxes. This will lead to a higher CG n i don't think the benefit outweighs the gain. The first design is interesting, but a little messy i guess.
