No... get some spacers to take up the extra room... Yeah Racing make a good set that go from 0.25mm right up to 3mm.

In some circumstances you might need to grind a little off the top but I can't remember why now - low ride height with big tyres I think is why I did it

Cool, all makes sense, I just trimmed the hub with a blade (took off 1mm) for now as it was easy as that is the lip. I will file down the extra 0.5mm when I have more time.

Does anyone have a recommendation for gearing for the RM01? What about a timing on the motor (rpm's vs amp draw)? Using a Thunder Power 13.5. Standard 1/12 scale tires (purple specs). Any help would be appreciated.

Check out the main 1/12 thread as there is heaps of info there on gearing for the different motors. The RM isn't really any different in that area other than being a bit heavier than most 1/12's

Looking to get in to 1/12. Have read most of the forum and feel that a RM01 is the way to start. Have tried to locate kits of either of the RM01 or RM01X to no avail (Hong Kong, Japan, Aus etc.). Does anyone know whether these chassis kits are still being produced?

I believe so, I still see recent new arrivals of stock in HK (physical) hobby shops.

RCJaz has them, but my advice from previous experience with them is to always email to ask if its actually in stock. A lot of their stuff shows available which may not be accurate.

RCMart has the Toms Toyota and Mazda 787B version of the RM01 in stock currently.

The RM01X will be harder to get because it was a limited edition

Guess it's my first post here so: hi all!
I've bought the RM two months ago... a complete 12th newbie.
I will lurk the entire 3D before asking, of course.
It was a Toyota and last week I've turned it in to a Porsche.

Default Fitting aftermarket Rear Foams

Hi there

anyone have experience in using aftermarket Foams on the RM 01 axle?

As the aftermarket is using 3 bolt setup as oppose to RM01 original rims which uses one lock nut.

Hope someone can share some insights.

Thanks

The RM01 rear wheels are bolted onto a hex adapter that is over a 3-bolt hub so you just take that off to use standard 1/12 wheels.

On the front you need to buy the Tamiya inch axles (54366).

As said - undo the 3 screws and take the hex adapter off and the hubs are the same pattern as any other 1/12 car and aftermarket wheels will bolt straight on - except they don't

My experience has been that pretty much all pre-mounted rears won't fit over the larger that average Tamiya thrust washer without reaming out the wheel center.

Also the RM01 is narrower than most other 1/12 cars when using standard 1/12 rears so some shimming may be required

Also do you guys feel the ball diff of the RM01 is not as smooth.

i find that the plastic nut that sit on the 2 dish spring washer is not snug. and the adjustment to make it not slip is very difficult. Its either too tight or too loose.

unlike other 1/12 that i have build which have a thrust bearing n plates. which is very precise.

can we change that plastic nut to something like a lock nut?

Thanks

The spacers are ok but for simplicity its better to shim the hubs on the axle - plenty of companies make 6mm shims in various thicknesses

Can't agree with you there - the RM01 diff always comes out really smooth for me.

You could try the Tamiya thrust bearing rather than a standard bearing - I know some people don't like using a standard bearing as a thrust bearing but I've tried it both ways (using a "proper" thrust bearing) and it works pretty much the same - you just need to keep on top of maintenance of the bearing.

If you REALLY want to change the plastic nut you can switch to a nyloc nut (its a standard 4mm thread) but you will possibly lose some adjustment as the plastic nut has a recess in it to let it screw on further.

Hello. Does anyone have a template for the RM01X? I would like to drill the holes to mount a different kind of front suspension. Thank you in advance.
