Default Is RC A Sport?

Well I hear This question all the time from my friends. They dont think it takes that much skill, they say "i can play video games really good so i can probley do that. I found that as an insault and im sure most of the racers that know really how hard half of the stuff is to do also find this as an insault. They try telling me that it takes no phisical ability to do this. They just dont understand about marshall sprints, the sprints to the hobby shop to the pit, and up to the drivers stand.

What do you guys think is it a sport or not?

its a tough one...

Golf is a sport.. (I feel it is a game)

Bowling.... again,, to me is a game..

ping pong?

Billiards?

HUNTING???

I suppose first and foremost, rc is a hobby. To call it a sport, would be a stretch.

depends how you look at it.

some people do it for fun, just as a "hobby" as something to do in their free time..just like some people do walking, or sailing or something...they do it because they enjoy it.

but then you get people that take it seriously..and top drivers it is their job, their career so then you could call it a sport....same with walking or sailing...you can do it for fun or you can do it seriously and prfessionaly

hope it made sense

To me a sport is somehting that physical endurance as well as mental abilities are in competition.

In RC, your mental abilities and motor skills are what you compete with.

There is no physical exhurtion, so it is more of a game. Like chess.

Marshalling does not count for exhurtion, because your race outcome does not count on how fast of a marshall you are.

Professional drivers consider it a career-

Keith

I think if you can call chess a sport then rc is definitely up there as a sport. It takes a lot of concentration to keep the car on the racing line, as well as keeping everyone else behind you. Try doing this this for an hour in as in a 1:8 gas final and i think it is pretty exhausting...

cheers

To me its a sport.
you have to be very good at hand eye cordination to do this. Its alot harder than a video game. cause in a game you dont spend real money. In r/C you can break things and then u have to use real money to fix it. Just tell your friends to try racing your car. Wich i doupt u will. but if u do tell them if they break something they pay for it. then if they do break something say ya its real easy huh. Thats what i would do.
Just tell them its more difficult then they think it is.

no way. Just because something is difficult dosen't make it a sport. RC racing isn't a sport, it's either a hobby or a game. IMO, NASCAR or other forms of full scale car racing aren't sports either, but many don't agree with me on that point...

I think Jez hits a good point here, we may not have the extreme's of physical exertion of other sports, but how many of you have come off the rostrum feeling aboslutely knackered after a long final?
It's all about the mental state in that situation, and in my mind RC provides a lot of mental exertion, which in itself is representivite of a sporting activity. Not to mention the competition element etc.
How many of us can say we feel trully drained when playing a game?
(Believe me, I've raced in a number of computer game leagues, and I class that a sport as well, go for a 2 hour race at Bristol, you'll be tired afterwards )

Back-yard bashing I would count as hobby, but when you get to racing (even a t club level) it becomes a sport.

Oh and not forgetting the fact that as I do it, it has to be a sport, 'cause I said so...

Racing and Track & Field are sports... The rest (baseball, etc...) are games..... Let's get that straight....

An outsider to this hobby (my wife) just said that RC Car racing is indeed a sport... Her comment was it takes time, patience and skill to be good at it....
