what does getting paid have to do with anything?

if someone is getting paid, it makes it a career..

I get paid to deliver packages for FEDEX, is that a sport?

RC is a combo of these sports:

Weight lifting (hours of yanking on the pull starter with a flooded engine)

Chess (racing takes parallel thinking to stay one step ahead of your competitor)

Darts (many hours of practice to perform your task under pressure)

Table Tennis (the hand-eye coordination of timing the throttle and steering)

RC is a recreational sport.

If they can show World Poker Championship games on ESPN I think were justified to call this a sport

I would not sat RC is a sport, but look at this way.....why NASCAR is a sport? Why F1 is a sport....?

None of the drivers did anything beside DRIVING and sweating, then ppl called that sport......the only ppl that did all the physicals are the mechanic or crew member....

If F1 or NASCAR driver driving = sport, then WE (as a driver of RC car) should be = SPORT as well.....only different is, we race 5 minutes, they race 2 plus hour, but again, if we do a 2.4 (1/10th scale of a 24 hours) LeMan Endurance race.............then RC is a sport.

Sport can also be defined as an active pastime or recreation. I agree though, money has nothing to do this topic.

Blackkat

The E in ESPN stands for Entertainment, therefore they do not exclusively show sports.

For the people who don't think real auto racing is a sport, have you ever DRIVEN a car on a track? Not the bs you do every day on the street, a real race track with other drivers all after the same thing you are. In football for example, you run for 15 seconds, you get a break for 45. In auto racing you have no breaks, its 110% for anywhere from 1 all the way to 24 hours (depending on the racing of course), stuffed in a 120 to 200+ degree enviornment where the slightest lapse in concentration could end your very life.

As Ernest Hemingway said: "The only real sports are bull fighting, mountian climbing and auto racing, the rest are just games."

As for RC, on the higher levels its definatly a sport. Wrenching on your car until all hours of the night, pushing to the very limits (and beyond sometimes) of the rules, tweaking and doing anything you can to squeeze that last .0005s per lap out of it, sometimes watching days of work disapear in a second, and at the highest levels your very lively hood at stake (career drivers, if you bomb a bunch of big races your outta a job).

No, you don't have to be buff and able to run 6 minute miles, but if you look at the mental states of alot of sports players and rc drivers I bet you would find they're more alike than not. Some things are more physical than mental, some are more mental than physical, but its the attitude that defines it for me.

This is very true. Some ppl call F1 is not a sport...I for one would disagree strongly. F1 drivers are amongst the most fittest ppl in sport. M Shumacher is a fitness freak, he is fit as he has to keep his concentration up during the whole race. Guys/girls who have driven racing karts would know that autoracing is a sport.

back to the subject, imho, rc is a sport..not physically perharps, but mentally it is.
