Default Tekin or Novak???

A friend of mine has two speedos for sale, a Novak Cyclone '99 and a Tekin G-10 Pro. I know both are excellent speedos, but which would you choose? It will be used in a 2wd buggy with both stock and modified motors. Thanks for any suggestions.

Um... I'd say buy the Novak but I'm a little biased

You're going to get a number of different opinions here but I'll start by saying both are excellent.
Personally, I'd go with the G-10. As good or better performance than the Cyclone but easier to live with......no giant capacitor to solder in. Programming it is easier for me also. Good Luck no matter which one you choose.

The G10 is Tekin's current ESC.YOu can still send it in for repairs if needed.

I'm not sure about the cyclone... NOvak's newer ESCs are now using surface-mount FETS. The may stop supporting ESCs using the usual TO-220 FETS and concentrate on SMTs in the near future.

Tekin

I have been winning races and setting fast times with a G10 1st Generation. Cannot wait to switch to a G10pro+. I even blew a fet/diod on the low end it still works and wins.

There is no comparison to Novak. I burned up 5 Cyclones (one was my fault) and 1 GT7. I will never run Novak again. Novaks will go flat electronically on the track. Usually that is 5/10ths per lap. You may never see it unless you have something good to compare it to and usually it is permanent.

The only time a Tekin will go bad if you do something stupid. If you send it in for repairs they actually will repair it, unlike Novak who would rather sell you their latest project.

I'd go with the Tekin simply because thats Tekin's latest ESC and the Novak is somewhat outdated

Personally if this were a GT7 or GTX vs. G10 I'd choose the GT*

I've been running Tekin since '92. G-10's since '98. They all still run and run well. Tekin recievers as well. Gave up Orange back in early '90's when they couldn't keep brake fets in them and have not looked back since. I also have a quantum comp 1 and its ok but that crappin case keeps poping open every other run and its been in for repairs twice. Lets just say I keep it in the box for a spare if all else fails or my buddies need one to borrow. But as they say I am a lil biased too.

I used to run orange as well, untill I purchased a new controler from them and it fried after 3 seconds of life. went to tekin, and never looked back. Tekin had speed controls that can take some abuse! controlers that have great flexablity. You can usualy get a tekin that would handle at least 8-10 cells, and any motor limit, it is hard to find a controler that will do that anymore.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. I decided to buy the Cyclone '99. I know Tekin speedos are good, but the Cyclones have been around for a long time and have won alot of races. I haven't read many bad things about them. Most people seem pleased with them over the years. Anyway, thanks again and feel free to reply.

this is going to seem like stupid question, but does anyone know if there is anywhere i can still get the last model of cyclone and pit wizard. I had one, but i want to get another. have tried the t7 but much prefer the adjustability that the P/W gives you
Any takers........?
