Motor wont rotate until a slight push... why?

I have a off-brand sensored bushless esc and it is acting a little funny.

From a stand-still, when I pull the throttle, the motor does not move. Until I push the car a little, then the throttle and the braking would work. However, from a dead stop, the motor just could not start to rotate.

I have tried several sensor wires AND multiple motors, it still happening. I have also reset the ESC and re-bind to my tranmsitter.... still the same thing. So is my esc toasted? Any ideas?

Thanks!

edit: reading all the post would be a good idea LOL didn't see that you tried other motors.

try going down a couple teeth on your pinion. Probably just over geared and causing your motor to "cog".

probally the sensor board in the esc

Or the sensor board in the motor. Clean out all the dust and gunk.

or a bad solder joint / bullet plug on one of the motor leads.

take a magnifying glass and check the sensor pins in the esc should be 6. broken pin 6 could also cause this.

It sounds like you have tried different motors which would rule out the sensor board on the motor.
I would check out the ESC more in depth. Can you tell us what kind it is? Perhaps someone has had some experience with your mystery brand speedo. Are you racing 1celll lipo?

I have seen this problems with dead bands in the speed controls adjust way to low. Do you have the same problem when bench testing with the wheels off the ground? Have you tried unplugging everything from the receiver except the speedo? Maybe the servo has a short and it causing a problem "not likely though".

The ESC is called Speed E-pro and it looks like this:

This ESC is made by a local RC company (HK based) but its not widely sold. This ESC is for sensored brushless only, so if I take out the sensor wire, the ESC will not work at all.

I suspect the problem is the ESC itself, since I have tried other motors on different ESC w/o problems. Maybe the sensor board on ESC or maybe a blown FET...

BTW: Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

had that happen on a Novak, 1 bank of FET had broken away from PCB

hardmankam 08-31-2011 08:32 AM

Was your ESC fixable? If so, by Novak or by yourself?

Phase on the ESC has been damaged.
I had this problem two times. After repair everything works fine.
