Hi,
I have been racing for about 4 years now and I would like to wind my own motors and maybe start a little business. I f any of you have any info on how or where I can find this information please let me know. I also would like to find out how they make brushes.

Winding a motor is not difficult, but there is no way to dynamically balance them without really expensive equipment. A statically balabced motor is worth nothing.

To balance it could I spin it on a tire balancer and balance it like a tire?

I think that one of the reasons most people don't answer is because even though electric motors seem quite simple, they are actually very complex animals. Especially when you start getting down to the nitty gritty details that make or break "hot" motors and the vast majority of people (including myself) just do not know anything about them.

Yes, ordinary solder won't do. Using a tire balancer will only get you static balancing. E.g. if the balancing of the front part of your armature is off to one direction and the rear part to the opposite direction by the same amount, a tire balancing tool would show it to be well balanced. Yes, well balanced statically, but no t dynamically. A motor like that would run like crap. So when you balance an armature, it's not enough to know from which side to drill, you also have to know which end to drill.

The machine that my motor guy uses will balance an armature down to 2 milligrams. Hes an old slot car motor builder and has had his balancer for years. He found another machine like it to use as spare parts for his and that one cost 10,000$!
