Need help gearing a TC3

Ok, I'm still in new with the electric rc's. I just built a TC3 and 3300 6 cell packs. Right now i'm running a Reedy Ti 10x3 and i'm having problems with the gearing. I've read if the motor get's to hot to down size the gearing of the pinion, so should I add or remove teeth? what set up's are you guys running. I'm still useing 48 pitch gears. Also I just ordered a D6 7x1

Thanks for the help.

what pinion are you running now, I would try a 20 tooth pinion, that is what I ran with a 9 turn, so it should work for you, ad if you are new, the drivetrain is prolly the prob, you should try to free it up alot, and also, if you are new, why are you running a mod motor

With a 9single, I was using... 104/28?

That's 9.3
So with 48pitch, it would be... 72/19?

I would assume to try between 17teeth, and 20teeth...

I don't run mod too ofton, but my car was hella fast :D .

I'm not sure why I chose to go mod. Probably for the speed. Right know i have a 70/23... I will try the 72/20. I see alot of people switch to the 64 pitch, how come?

Thank for all the help... Now just to tap into the pocket book with out the wife finding out. ha ha ha...

You have more choices with your gearing using 64 pitch and they are more efficient.

with a 10 turn run 19 thru 21 depending on the size of track your running on .. you could also turn down the timing a few degrees to smooth out the motor... In my BMI tc3 I ran 21 pinion 72 spur ..

This forum is sweet.. I've posted this same question on 3 other sites and never seen a response... thank you very much you guys...

..

here's some numbers for ya to work with..
with a 72 spur.. 19 pinion = 9.47 final
20 pinion =9.00 final
21 pinion =8.57 final
22 pinion = 8.18 final
23 pinion = 7.83 final drive ..
also you can go to www.gearchart.com and print out a gearchart for future use at the track... Have fun ...

If you under gear the motor can you still over heat it?

This is my new set up. and the motor / esc is still getting hot.

D6 6x1
21/78
I have a LRP QC esc that allows me to drop to 5t.

What should I do?

onebeatuptc3 11-06-2004 10:51 AM

with the tc3, what are the options for gear pitch? thought i would ask this here because this is relating to gearing.
