Because believe it or not drifting is a huge sub culture of rc, especially in the Orient. It's popular here too, but not taken serious by most rc enthusiasts.
Drifters love the mid ship motor positioning. It puts the weight up front for quicker cornering. Also the chassis comes with optional pulleys I think to set the car up for "counter steer", which is a term used by drifters that means overdrive and they like the way it makes the car look too when sliding, because it allows you to drive through the drift. The battery position also adds to faster weight transfer.

Drifting and F1 are the biggest classes in Japan.

I like it. I'm bored of every TC looking the same.

I guess it's mostly aimed at drift racing, but it could work well for stock TC.

Good to see something different, well done HPI.

Im gonna buy one, ive been waiting for a good belt driven car to add to my collection. It was either this or the Street Jam OTA-R31, i like the R31 a little better because the engine is like literaly touching the front shock tower, where as the TC-FD is a little farther back like most front midships, but i like the hpi better and it'll be easier to get parts for it stateside. Once they announced the price below $500 that pretty much sold me on it.

Midship chassis designs and conversions have been out for some time now. Here is Tamiya's Vertical Deck Frame.
http://www.redrc.net/2010/05/tamiya-...drift-machine/

Yokomo also has a DRB. These two chassis with the new TC-FD sums up the high end kits available.

I like it, i was about to say that it looked like Tamiya's VDF kit. I'm surprised the TC-fd is priced higher than the Gold version VDF kit at speedtech...
