Anyone have a PDF or link of the DH manual? I can only find the standard XI manual.

Matt

There is no DH manual ... just a couple of extra pages to replace steps in the XI manual

Ahh, I see. Thanks Greg. I have a fair amount of slop in the steering with the XI setup minus the extra support the XI uses. I was wondering if there was a different stock shim setup on the DH that counters that.

Matt

The 2 x M16 screws have a M3 locknut on top to lock the assembly together.

A ballstud is fixed into the top of steering drag link (the part that ties the two arms together)

Yep, that's what I had. I've just added a 5mm .2 shim under the m3 nut (so now there's .4 total) and there's less play in the rear part of the system. Any more shims there and the nut will put pressure on the steering system. Just need to fiddle with the forward part of the arm to adjust the play in that without adding any drag to the steering.

Thanks

Default XI DH

How is everybody running the new DH car going?
Do you have any setup hint or tips?

Will be fully converting my XI to DH spec this week, and testing at the track on Friday.

So far I prefer the feel of the servo rotation mod on my XI.

What difference's have you found in the setup? Or running the same setups and its just better?

I'm about to hit the track in a few hours. I'll post up my findings as well.

I was orginally going to run it 21.5 for Challenge Cup rounds. But decided to just keep it in stock instead.

The guys who are running 21.5 seem to be gearing for anything between 4.0 and 2.8 depending on track size and motor timing.

To get that low with the XI you'll need to go down to at least the 65t spur. You can fit as small as a 60 if you want to custom drill the holes in it. With a spur that small you can get at least a 42t pinion on there. To help you can use the root arm from the Zero vertical motor mount, or grind away some of the stock root arm.

3Racing have a new motor mount listed as coming soon on the spare parts section of the website. Its a horizontal motor mount, like the one on the Zero S, but obvioulsy redesigned for the XI. That would give you even more gearing options.

------- Testing ---------

So I hit the track today with some friends, shiny new XI converted to DH version. I settled on 5.75 front springs and 6.0 rear, sorex 36 rubber.

With the new servo position, I actually turned down the steering expo from -30 back to 0. The car has a nicer feel to it now then in the standard XI configuration. My first thought is the car now has loads more steering then it did. Especially on power through the sweepers, and the overall grip seems higher.

Something else I tried today was going to a front gear diff instead of the spool. It did cost me a tiny amount of steering through the sweepers, but with the new car that's still better then it was. It had a hint more turn in through the chicanes, and overall just felt nicer to drive. I was using 300000wt oil in the front diff, with 80wt (1000cst) in the rear.

My setup wasnt too different with the new chassis to the last. But the basics are:

Boosted 17.5, med-low grip asphalt, R9-R body, Sorex 36

Front
5.75 spring
30wt oil
3 hole piston
Longest upper arm length
Geardiff 300000wt
ride height 5mm
+.5 toe
-1.5 camber
4* caster

Rear

6.0 spring
30wt oil
3hole piston
shortest upper arm length
Geardiff 80wt
Ride height 5.5mm
-3 toe
-2 camber

Still need to fiddle with the rear. I'd like to try -2 toe with -2.5 camber. And add the roll bars back.

Got to race the car on the weekend, and I have to say, I love the DH.

I set a new PB for a club day, on a very low grip track (the car was a drift car for the first lap or 2 on cold tyre's). And was only .2 of my fastest ever lap there, which was on a large comp day, with sauce and warmers.

The car is so much smoother with the front gear diff.

I have some full size TRF shocks on the way, anyone who's running these what spring packs are you using? I was thinking HPI because I can get them locally, but I'm not sure if its the pairs of pro matched springs, or the pro 4 set that I should be getting?

Am i correct in thinking that the parts needed to upgrade too the Dh version are the chassis, top deck , and 2 piece suspension mounts. And does anyone know if a conversion kit is coming out
