Default Tamiya TA05 v.2 R vs. Associated Factory Team TC6

These are about the same price. Which one is better? Where is it better (class, surface) and why?

TC6

Cheaper parts, better materials, Lipo optimized, better value for what you get out of the box.

The TA05 tub chassis can suffer from tweak over time, at least on the one I had.

Mod.. TC6... For stock I would go TA05v2. Parts cost is same.. Unless you count .50 cent difference big. Tamiya quality is better, but you are comparing tub to carbon chassis vehicles. Tamiya does not tweak, that kit has the reinforced chassis.. The old TA05s did back in the day. TC6 is easy to work on, but Tamiya drives like a dream. All depends on what you want to race. Tamiya TCS race coming up in Chicago in a couple weeks.. I see that you are local, go check it out!

I want to get into VTA, maybe eventually move up to 17.5 stock touring car racing when I become competent.

All that I would add is on the TA05 V2 you can also run the cool low profile bodies due to the laydown shock design in the front! 17.5 is about as fast as you want to run on the Tamiya chassis. A mod motor would work better with composite flat chassis!
Just my 2$

I'm a die hard tamiya fan, I don't have the v2 but had the ifsr version and now I'm running tc6. My own honest opinion: Tc6, has tons of steering and easier to drive.but if I have the money I would go with the 417. But then again, we are talking about two cars with the same price range.

The TC6 is more rear motored as compared to the Tamiya's middle placement so the comment about the steering is surprising.

Are there any other cars that I should be thinking about which would have similar features, potential and price points ($275 - $325)?

im racing the Photon with is a good chassis and around the same price
but out of the two you are asking about i would go for the TC6 just because if later on your want to move up a couple of classes it will still be fine

You could easily pick up a 416x used for that kind of price and then you get the best of both worlds

Surprising indeed, that's what happened to me, I never thought I would like the tc6 but I was wrong.

As for the price, It all depends were you are .Here in the Philippines, you cant get the AE parts readily anytime. Tamiya is popular due to parts availability. I have to order all my parts in the states for my Kyosho and Losi parts(long wait).

As for the Hop ups, although expensive, is part of the fun and makes 1/10 RC onroad/drift a bit different from other models.

Hope this helps

the ta05 handles mod motors too, when i had my ta05r (v1) i drove it with a 4.5t motor, handles it well and no problems at all
