They're busy.

I run mine in both electric(on and off road) and nitro. The only problem I had was in my nitro when it first powered on the throttle servo would work back and forth about 20 degrees for about 10 seconds then work fine until turned off then repeat when turned back on.Never had a problem with electric and I run a Hitech HFX which is pretty much bottom of the barrel when it comes to esc's.

Well, I have no choice. Horizon isn't being especially helpful by phone and they haven't returned any of my emails regarding this monumental blunder. The receiver is going back to them AGAIN.

Just got my new Spectrum/Helios system from Ultimate Hobbies... and sure enough, it's got the "alteration of fail-safe trims" bug...

I was really hoping that by waiting *this* long to get mine, I'd be sure to get a bug-free unit. Guess not...

Does anyone know how to tell an old receiver (with flawed software) from a receiver with updated software... without opening the box?

Are you talking about when I bind the receiver, no mater where I hold the controls, when it goes into failsafe (turn trans off) I have about 25% left steering and centered on throttle. I tried to set it with some brake.
Also when I set the throttle ATV for forward and brake (NTC3) the center (neutral) moves slightly with it. Have to keep setting trim and then adjust ATV more. I have never had that before. I put the PCM back in and the trim doesn't change when setting end points.
I am sending them back for updates and hope that will take care of this.

bob,

if the rx takes more then a few seconds to bind, you have an old rx. And probably need to get the updated software. Also make sure that your helios is not in the hrs or ahrs modes.

Well, today I received a very polite email from horizonhobby:

Joe,

We apologize that you are not satisfied with the service work done to
your SpekTrum receiver when it was returned to Horizon Hobby.

Prior to sending back your SpekTrum receiver, we tested your receiver
with one of our transmitters and everything was functioning perfectly,
therefore we were comfortable in returning the receiver back to you.

Although errors can happen, to date we have had a 100% success rate
with our SpekTrum repairs. I am going to ask our developer of the product
to contact you at the phone number listed in your original e-mail. He
is the same person who conducted the repair on your receiver so I'm
sure he would be interested in speaking to you.

Due to extremely high demand, we currently our out of stock on
receivers, so we have none to offer as a replacement. We are expecting our
next shipment sometime within the next four to six weeks.

Again, we apologize that you are not happy with our repair and you can
look forward from a phone call from a Horizon representative to discuss
this in greater detail.

If you have any questions in the meantime, contact me toll free at
------

Well at least something is happening, but I'm still out a receiver
I'm starting to wonder if they plugged the receiver into an ESC hooked to a 6 cell subC battery pack. I'm curious if my defective receiver would work that way. Either way, it doesn't work with any of my 5 cell (6.0v) receiver packs, while my other receiver works fine....

That's strange... my bind happened pretty quickly.. and yet I clearly had trim-retention problems.

Default Problems solved..

Although i had a few issues in the beginning, i was able to work them out to get my Spektrum working.. thanks mostly to Ray Warner (r/c tech'r) ..

I then decided (shoulda thought about this earlier) to visit the SPEKTRUM website to comfirm and see if more of my questions could be answered..

found these few pages there that i found informative..

Q&A

Antenna length.

One thing I think that is making this difficult for all of us is the instructions included with the Spektrum. Not detailed enough.

All-in-all, i'm pleased with the Spektrum, now that i've figured how to properly set it up.. Took more than a few tries to figure it out though.. sounds wierd, but..
