I see. Bcos there seems to be quite a number of rotors available but it is not stated which of those are standard items in the stock and mo motors.
As far as I can see there are:
12.3 x 24.2 (7.25)
12.3 x 25 (7.25)
12.5 x 25 (7.25)
12.2 x 25 (5.0)
12.5 x 25 (5.0)
Also, what does the 7.25 and 5.0 refer to? You mentioned that the stock rotor in a stock class motor may be a 12.5 x 25. However there is a 5.0 and a 7.25 version of that rotor. So which is the exact one found in an off-the-shelf Sonic?
Thanks.

Rick, please provide additonal feedback, using a LRP SXX stock spec speedo, 0/8/9/4 settings in 1/12th scale indoor carpet racing with a Reedy 1s 65c 5500mah pack, what it the ideal temperature range for the motor and where on the motor should we take a reading?

Fortunately, as an old nitro guy, my Exergen D500 temp gun now is a part of my "must have tools" in my electric on-road box.

Any advantage to running ceramic bearings in the sonic motor. Also where can I purchase them?

Finally gave the 17.5 motor a few packs in with boost.
6.3 fdr
50 boost
15 turbo
5k- 20k
1st timing mark on the older unmarked can.
I definatly noticed the infield driving was smooth and consistent. Top end was lacking. Heats up pretty quick.
My D3 with almost the same settings is way more punchy and agressive with the same temps.
I do like the throttle feel on the infield tho, its easier to drive your lines in the corners. I will play with the settings more to try get cooler temps and a little more punch/top end out of it.

I would add some more gear (say mid 5's FDR), and back off on the ESC a tad. I am finding this is what my motor likes in boost.

Myself and Mockerman ran 4.17 with timing at the start of the screw. I believe Hebert was at the start of the cut-out for the screw at around a 3.9 FDR. I also believe Goetz had one in as well. Horsepower was not an issue for any of us.
This is for an average midwest style carpet track. Your current settings (timing) as well as track type would also help get you better information.

Most say the Sonic is smoother or had a better powerband than the X-12. I used a 5.0 X12 and continue to use a 5.0 Sonic. To me the Sonic is easier to drive. I believe that Juho runs a 5.0 as well.

boosted - because this motor likes so much timing in spec, i've found that running it boosted still requires some static timing remain in there. in fact, i run my spec timing and add boost from there. the gear reduction when boosted takes care of decreasing the load at low rpm's. or, if you turn it way down at the motor, the boost ramp needs to start early, and be relatively steep.
mike slaughter - good job out there. you looked like a champ, man. indy?

But, yes I will be at Indy. It is one of my favorite facilities. I have been pimping Indy to anyone locally that would listen since the Regionals last year and hope to bring a good sized GR contingent down with me.
Back to the Sonic, my next project is to get one up to speed in blinky 17.5 12th. I'm open to suggestions on a starting point.
