hi joe b

you said you "have some packs that have over 35cycles and are almost two years old". do you mean you have only used them for 35 times in the last 2 years? if so, it makes sense, as i think the performance fades faster when you run the packs very often, not when you store them and hardly ever use them. the reason my packs don't perform as well after a few months, is that i use them at least twice every weekend. i use a high-end charger to cycle them, but after 30 cycles or more, they're not as good as new. this may sound normal to you and other factory drivers, but for me, spending $70 on a pack i'm only going to use for 30-40 times is a waste of money.

I'm running LRP cells over here in the UK, and they kick ass.

Well Billtc3, if you feel that way about the batteries why aren't you using the cheaper stick packs that you can buy for about $15 a pack? Like the Tower Hobbies brand.

billtc3 - You *can* feel and see(in lap times) the difference between 1.18v pack and 1.15v pack. Also most people here race once a week and run a pack once maybe 2 times tops in a race day. If you keep your packs in good condition and don't abuse them they should last more then 30 cycles. If your running 1/12th mod you may find yourself selling off packs every 2-3 months for runtime reasons, but most other classes this isn't really necessary(unless you run in an ULTRA competative stock class). Heck alot of people(non sponsored) buy really good packs, go to a big race and then run them for the rest of the year/season. A good 6 cell pack is $55-$60, a good 1/12th pack is around $50.

I agree.. if you take care of your packs and don't abuse them, they can last an entire season...

BTW - Kinetix sells 400+ 1.174+ 6 cell packs for $54.95... I just got some packs from team br00d that I haven't run yet, but so far, Kinetix have been the best I actually used... but, tomorrow will tell for sure...

I tend to agree with you up to a point. I use to buy Orion Team batteries for around 60 a pack over here in the UK. Then when Glyn ward of BRM started racing at our club I bought 3 packs off him for 100 and there was only a slight differance in the two.
For a top racer this differance is worth it but for the majority of racers who can not go through a five miniute race and get thier average laps close to their fastest laps, the neally double price is waisted.

Just my 2 pennies worth.

Im not going to enter a huge battery war debate. What I would like to offer to you is try one of the smaller matchers....get to know them and they will usually be very helpful in your purchasing process. I personally have never had anything better than Surge. Pop in the Surge thread and ask questions. Even if you dont buy a Surge pack, Jon and the rest of the guys will be glad to help you.
