I run a RC club in Northern California.

Currently we have Team Losi 2 XXXs, 1 TC3 rtr and 11 Yokomo MR4TCs (Belt Drive).

What is the proper pinions for them? Running Monster Stock Horsepower Motors in the XXXSs, and P2Ks, MVPs, and Paradigm stock motors in the MR4TCs. The course has short straights and ELEVATION CHANGE, climbing 11 feet from the lowest to the highest part.

What are the spur gear sizes? The 'correct' pinion also will vary from car to car since the cars you mention have different intertnal drive ratios.

I would assume stock spur gears. So the pinion teeth is the most important adjustment.

Basically want I am look for is a showing of what racers find to be the perfect compromise on teeth.

I was hoping to see some sort of bell curve on the poll.

Of the question, if you have one of these cars and could have only one pinion, what would be it?

Of the racers in the club, I am on only race with more than ONE pinion. We have no hobby shop for people to go to close by where people can start building up a collection of pinions for tuning their cars.

Cmotif, it is really hard to say. I can't give you any recommendations because I have no idea what the standard spur gear sizes are. Also, gearing can vary as much as 2 teeth between motors of the same model. I think the rule I hear most often is to gear so that your car peaks out 3/4 of the way down the straight. Maybe you could pool all of the pinions your club has and test them on one car, find which one works best with a specific motor and go from there.

Stock spur on at least the XXXS Graphite + is a 90t. I run a 23t pinion on mine with a Fantom monster stock. I am also running the black belt kit on my car as well.

Like the previous poster stated it is going to be hard to say what you need unless we know all the facts and you get more to respond with those particular cars.

there are many factors that determine the right pinion.

1st is the type/brand/tuning of the motor that you are using.
2nd the spur you are using on the car
3rd the type of car - internal drive ratio
4th quality of your batts
5th the layout of the track - technical or highspeed
6th size of the track - length of the straight
7th driving style


my .02 cents try borrowing pinions first then buy the ones that you think is perfect for you.

IMO get all sizes in that way no matter what the conditions are you are prepared for what ever comes you way.
