With the short lengths of wire that we use in RC, I don't see there being a problem with soldering the diode on the ESC. In some respects it might be better to keep the diode away from a hot motor anyway. just my $.02

Default How to place diode

The diode has a plus and minus pole/lead do you solder it in line on the positive wire between the ESC and the motor

ESC +____________+diode - ___________ + motor

or do you Solder it across from the plus to the minus wire?

ESC+ _________________ +diode _____________ +Motor

ESC - __________________ - diode ____________ - Motor

Your second option. Pos to pos to pos and neg to neg to neg. The pos has a silver stripe round the end.

Default diodes

i put em on the esc and the motor - too many can't hurt, especially when I glitch as much as I do. I've started to use noise filters though, and boy do they work wonders!
