Why not run 8 minutes or even 10 minutes (in case of Lipo) instead of 5 ? No need for 4 cells. Speeds will go down and one of the biggest arguments of nitro guys against electric will sound a lot weaker. They even have to refuel to get 8 or 10 minutes.

If you were to run a longer race than 5 mins, then you would need to make the day longer you would then limit the amount of racers, and therefore peeps would not be able to book in for meetings as there would be limited entrants and thefore pepps would lose interest and therefor the numbers would fall even further. This is turning into a Lipo / NiMh thread now... but my .02:

If ROAR / IFMAR go the 4 cell route, the only hope of saving electrics will be lipo. Everyplace I go, I see folks with Lipos. Many just for testing purposes. But if there were a lipo class, I'm sure it would blow away the nimh classes, in terms of number of racers.

Lipo is here. We might as well embrace it. turning away from it will kill the sport.

If they got the 4 cell route.....Lipo is all but dead.....3.7 volts will never keep up with a 4.8 volt NiMH....I don't care how much capacity it has......and the Lipo companies will NEVER make a new cell for the RC industry....

It's in the RC industries best interest to stay at 6 cell.....

It's still concerning whats gonna happen to 1/12th scale with lipo....back to 7+ volt packs?.....aka back to the exploding land missles...

I'm with Eddie on this one. Our sport isn't broken! I feel the Lipo's are dangerous and not good for the masses. I also think we need to draw the line concerning our current batteries. We don't need longer races, we need to stick with what has worked for some time. If you need to race for longer than 5 minutes, run gas. The motor and battery companies need to slow down, not everyone can buy them every 2-3 months
just my 2 cents, Mike

the battery companies will never slow down, they make batteries for the rest of the world of applications, we happen to use them for this tiny little nice hobby called rc car racing.. i bet there are 4 times as many batteries used in cordless drills than rc cars, and they want more capacity.... and my roomba needs more capacity too... clubs need to maybe go to limiting the number of batts you buy in a year..

OK getting back on the JRXS........

Whats everyone's thoughts on running the JR front link on tarmac? I've been using it on Carpet and it has made the car better, but will it suit a medium grip, reasonably fast and flowing outdoor track running Stock?

Many thanks for any tips/your experiences

Oli

I tried it on asphalt but didn't like it and went back to the stock link. I love it on carpet with foams though.

I have loved the link on asphalt since I tried it last season. Only now its been so long I really should try the standard link now for comparison.
