a national points series may be easier to test with offroad than with carpet onroad or asphalt onroad as there arent a ton of major events for either of those but you have a few you can choose from for offroad

Here is what I can find so far:

Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout (CA)
Cactus Classic (AZ)
April Fools Day Classic (UT)
CRCRC Winter Midwest Championships (OH)

Im sure Im forgetting a few that would be good fits

As for Carpet onroad:

Halloween Classic (Ohio)
TimeZone Carpet Grand Prix (Oregon)
Snowbird Nationals (FL)
US Indoor Championships (Ohio)

As with offroad Im sure there are others I am forgetting

ETS should be a good example of a well run points series.......

Factory drivers get to travel with the local hotshots and club racers participating when the series lands on their neighborhood.

A lot of those events are specially designed for the ETS. Whoever put it together would probably have to do that for an American onroad series

I don't know anyting about ETS but that's pretty much exactly what I envision as a legitimate touring series that stays relevant to all levels of talent.

I think that if we're gonna do an American series the question that needs to be asked is if it will be a carpet only series, asphalt only series or a combination of the two. Then once we determine that, we need to figure out how many rounds it should be and where the rounds should take place and what classes will be involved

http://ets.redrc.net/ This is the website for the ETS btw

IMO ETS works because the manufacturers support the series by sending their best euro drivers to every race with attendance filled by local drivers from that region. I was hoping that Scotty Ernst would have brought a 4 race series to the U.S. which would show case the best drivers in north America.

Im sure if somebody talked to him about it and they had a skeleton for a plan to work from he'd look at making it happen.

Here is what I came up with while I was waiting for a couple emails to come in (As with everything Ive posted so far, subject to change since this is just what's been formulating inside my head):

5 Rounds

RC Madness (Enfield, CT)
Debbie's RC World (Chesapeake, VA...ok so Im a little partial to this one lol)
Mike's Hobby Shop (Carrolton, TX)
TimeZone II (La Center, WA)
Speedworld Raceway (Roseville, CA)

If it was based around major races Id go with something like this

Snowbird Nationals
US Indoor Championships
Halloween Classic
TimeZone Carpet Grand Prix
One other event (I am tapped in this regard)

CLasses:

Touring 17.5, 13.5 and Modified
12th scale 13.5
World GT 13.5

Points:

1st: 25 points
2nd: 20 points
3rd: 15 points
4th 10 points
5th: 5 points
6th: 4 points
7th: 3 points
8th: 2 points
9th and 10th: 1 point

Thats all I came up with...stuff like ride height, weight, etc Id leave up to people who could calculate that stuff better than I could if this came into being

No 1/12 17.5 or 1/12 Mod? Two of the oldest classes nationwide?

You should align with the classes offered at the ROAR Nationals, or what's the point?

This sounds good to me. Maybe add F1 or VTA or like carbonjoe says " base it around ROAR classes.

BTW the New RC Madness in Ct. is awesome!! (of course I'm biased too!)

In fairness part of the reason the ETS makes sense is because it's 1/3 the size of the USA. http://goeurope.about.com/od/europea...arison-map.htm Also given the economy / work requirements I know a lot of people that can't take that much time off of work for 2 races a year let alone 4+. It's hard enough to make all of the points series races here in town for offroad lol. I like the idea however. Maybe divide it up for west coast east coast series. Because the cross country haul is time consuming and expensive. Just a couple thoughts.

I always love seeing top pro's race however.

If there was to be a points series you need WAY more points paying positions.

Those are good ones CJ...like I said, its stuff that mostly is rattling in my head and Im just trying to get it down before I forget.

I do like the prospect of having regional series...in fact that was really the gist of my first idea only that was way way down to the local level

With my initial idea a couple pages ago my thought was 25 point "factor 5" scoring for the A main (50%+1 entrants for the class to count for points) and 10 point system for B and lower (as long as its again 50%+1)

The Halloween Classic is part of a regional series, the Midwest Grand Slam.

As I said, I was just trying to get ideas down before I forgot them. Either way, having events that cover each part of the country whether in a national series or another set of regional series is a good idea
