There's still a dent in my work-room wall from where I just whiped the thing as hard as I could because it was such a POS.
Gary, the next time you decide to "whip" another handout into a wall, think "GUNDAM" and box them up and ship then to me! I'll get my wife to send down my RS4 and rally wheels to go rally and I will cook the motors for you, okay?

Dude parts don't matter it's all about skill, when i first started racing i had a TC3 BONE stock with a cheepo radio, motor, servo, and esc, and i practiced until my finger joints didn't have any more life in them and i won over dudes with tricked out losis and X-rays with mod motors

Wink Cheating? Why do you need to?

I was trying to resist posting, but hopefully this helps the guys that feel the need to cheat "just because the other guys are fast." TCS was and will always be a race that Tamiya tries to level the field. Note that I said "tries", because I know for sure that handout motors are pretty much luck of the draw.

At the recent Nats... my car wasn't the fastest, but thankfully the most consistent. We were only allowed 2 motors to use for both qualifying and mains (That's 7 runs total if you're aiming to run the triple-As). After receiving the J-types on Friday, I checked both motors and found that one was drawing lower amps than the other. So right there, I know for sure that my motors were 50/50 and I had to manage them really carefully. Some racers were lucky to get 2 good ones while I know of a couple of really good drivers that got 2 bad motors (I do felt sorry for them). This is unfortunate, but Tamiya is not to blame for this luck of the draw, as they themselves don't know how the motors will perform out of the box.

Some may be wondering what I did to my motors to win the Nats. Well, believe it or not... I just broke them in for about 10 minutes... that's it! My weak motor didn't even improve so there's really no real secrets in going faster with a mabuchi... I guess the only advise I could give to those who feel like cheating is to practice your lines and try not to make any kind of mistake. I saw the videos of my races and wow, I myself was surprised on how clean my lines were... no sugar-coating, just lucky I guess throughout the weekend. Really, it's hard, but that's the only way to be consistent. Remember that simply hitting the curb slows down momentum and there goes your needed .1 sec.

What did I do to my bad motor? Hehe... I still used it in one of my qualifiers and still got me a good time that was only a few seconds off my TQ. It was slow, yes, but I got decent lap times because of avoiding mistakes...

So, there you have it... my 2 cents to cheating... DON'T EVEN or you'll really get embarrassed when caught! The R/C community is so close knit that people never forget these things...

BTW, both Gary and I were talking about engraving another motor to run at Nats... haha! Yes, we were guilty of thinking about it! But we didn't... and that what matters!

I know nothing of which this man speaks, lol. I still want to see that A1 video. Dude yanked me with a freaking mabuchi and made me look absolutely freaking stupid....And just remember Ian..your garbage motor was better than my best motor. Not making excuses, you saw the dyno numbers

Well, if Fred and the rest of them leaves me behind in J-land... I'll surely be doing that to get a ticket back home!

Default Cheating

I've raced at tracks that said stock was how it came out of the package not by number of winds.

So to break a silver can motor in legally, just dip it in water or run it while still in the glass? With a 4 cell pack or 6?
