Sorry to disappoint all knowing Stevil Actually, I've got a question for you that's related to my work and I can't get anyone in the office that knows and you may save me a long search. We sell industrial plastic centrifugal pumps with large electric motors (anywhere from 1/15 HP to 7 HP) Most of them are available either "single phase" or "three Phase" Since you're the all knowing Stevil, can you tell me the difference between a single and a three phase motor?

jon,

Basically, three phase motors generally run off of higher voltage and run more efficiently than "single" phase motors... Three phase wiring is generally more complicated and it's hard to say if your work is setup for that sort of thing... check the following link ...

http://www.answers.com/topic/three-phase-electric-power

I don't know if you are looking to get a new motor or replace an existing one... but this link should help you figure out what you have going on there...and then you guys can go from there

Hope this helps!
