Default Open Source Scoring Software?

Haven't even checked to see if there is anything available out there. But, assuming there's not, how many people do we have out there who would be interested in working on writing one in an open source fashion? If there's interest I'll put something up on Sourceforge or Freshmeat.

I would be interested in working on something such as this, I have wondered if anything like this did exist for a while now actually

Would the open source system use AMB transponders or would there be a project to make your own also...?

I can offer free web hosting for the project.....

Sounds interesting. I haven't ever seen an open source scoring program. What were you planning on writing it in? What OS support, windoze, linux, etc?

I have a background in database design (MySQL, Oracle) and scripting languages (PERL, PHP, etc) and would willing to contribute if I can.

Who knows what it would look like. At this point, it could do or be whatever we want it to.

jlou671 - You race at Ultra? If so, come look me up Sunday.

Actually I do. I am going up Wed to break in my car. I race shifter karts during the warm months then race indoor electric during the freezing ass cold months.

Whats your name?

Probably be a bit more portable if it was written in Java.

You are probably better writing a layer to communicate with the AMB system in C/C++ and keep is as portable as possible, and abstract the display to either a VB app for windows, or GTK or QT app for X11. Use something like XML to communicate between the two.

But what I am thinking is if you can't build your own hardware... why would someone want to use a non-amb software..

I have never seen anyone use the AMB software.. Where I race they use Alycat, and at another track they actually already use a custom program with AMB transponders.

Right now I was just hoping to find out who would be interested in it...we can work out the details at a later date...

Actually, I've got some good ideas on how to make it work on just about everything...

I was definately thinking though of working with the latest AMB stuff for sure though...unless there are some EE's out there that want to build some new hardware?

dr_hfuhuhurr the AMB gear is already of such a quality and is very common, it would be silly to implement anything else, imho. That is of course not to say the system couldnt work with multiple transponder systems..

Definately...there are plenty of slick ways of doing that (design patterns).

Anyone who's interested in working on something like this PM me with your e-mail address and I'll start a mailing list of some sort that we can start to discuss this stuff.

Hey doc, have you managed to setup a mailing list as of yet?

If not, i'm happy to get something like that setup and I can have an irc channel hosted as well.

Getting the USB info from AMB is a PAIN!.....
Unless you have a a USB sniffer.

The serial info can be decoded fairly easy.
