540j xray gearing help plz
hi im new to onroad and need some help with gearing
i just pick up 008 xray and going to run on open carpet track
my motor is silver can and i need a starting point
i have a 116 64p spur but i can change this out
what would be a good pinion/spur to start at

You want a final drive ratio of around 4.9-5.5. I would start with 5.5 and work your way down from there, but it was not unheard of to run as low as 4.9-5.0 when we ran them on a medium sized track.
To figure out what your FDR is or needs to be the formula is;
SPUR / PINION * INTERNAL RATIO = FDR
(spur divided by pinion multiplied by internal)
To find out what pinion you want for a specific FDR;
SPUR / FDR * INTERNAL RATIO = Pinion
If I remember right the IR of the 008 was 1.9, but I would check on that.

so do you want a large pinion l& large spur or small spur&pinion?

The pinion/spur size moves the motor forward or backward, and so affects the weight bias of the car. Although, in SC racing it's not such a big deal. Also, bigger pinion and spur are more rotating mass, so more work for the motor.
We run on a biiiig asphalt track and run 4.0 FDR with Lipo. The cars come off pretty warm, big still not cooking!

The xray T2's arnt made for silvercan (File-ing needed to fit them), & can be a pain to sort out gearing that will actually fit.
I have a 2008 running silvercan, but I can only advise about 48p (I dont use 64p)
I ran a 78 spur, 33 pinion, because this is what actually fits & gives access to the motor screws(Through the holes in the spur)
But I run outdoors only, so I use fdr of 4.
Are you running 34/20 pullies or 38/16 pullies
these give ratios of 1.7 or 2.37
**run the 34/20 pullies, its alot easier to gear for silvercan
You will need to file out the motor mount to fit the silvercan's endbell, it may allready have been done
Get either genuine Xray, or RW Racing spurs. They have the holes in the right place to allow access to the motor mount screws
as a approx guide..
the max total maximum teeth you can fit (spur + pinion) is 112,112 will will be a very tight mesh, too tight
84 with a 28 (Pinion/spur)
78 with a 34 (Pinion/spur)
**run the 34/20 pullies, or else the spur will have to be too small to allow access to motor screws.
