This is my car after the first of two finals, this one I still won by a lap after starting last happened when I was lapping some inconsiderate driver and they sent both of our cars into the grass, must of contacted a small stone or maybe the edge of the tarmac.

Hi there Dave and the Cuda nuts,

I'm thinking of buying a new R2... I'm a bit of a newbie so I appreciate the R2's purported "tank" qualities. In any case, looking at this thread, it looks like there are quite a lot of parts that I could/should buy...

What are considered must haves?
What would be good to have etc.

(I can't seem to find what I need to know in this thread... so sorry, if its already been said)

A list would be nice

Thanks in advance!

well I've been running it as kit spec for the last couple months, other than an extra normal diff for the front, so thats one thing to add to the shopping list.
Spur gear wobble is one thing to think about, I've stripped a few spurs, on from building it first time with a wobbly spur, one from setting the mesh too loose becuase it's not easy to get to the lower motor screw and so you have to take care, one from an off where something must of hit the spur to knock a few teeth off. Two ways of helping the spur situation, alloy shaft holders or Speedway PAL drive system. It seems the drivesystem is the better option, both is best
You'll want to get a few spares, the car is strong but not indestructable, although I'm yet to break anything. You may want alloy c-hubs out of any alloy suspension parts, then rear hubs and then steering knuckles, although they are mostly for looks.
Personaly I don't like the bleed screw type shock caps and so I'm getting bladder type caps from yokomo which fit as a direct replacement.
You may want a few sway bars to try help setting up.

Other bits are nice looking or help a little with weight or quick changes. The kit doesn't really need weight removed, I have had to add 35grams to stay within the 1500gram limit.

what if he doesn't want to run a one way
it would be better for a new driver to use a normal diff, less spinning out while braking worries

Well I would say more practice

You could go out and buy the center drive shaft if you really wanted to have fun

Exclamation Well took the R1 EXCEL Cuda to the track yester day

I just got finished switching out my broken Kai Chassis for the New EXCEL one on my Purple R1 Cuda and took it for a spin... All I can say is Wow the batterys were moved 1mm closer to the driveshaft than on the Kai one and also they were moved 2mm forward So this made for some interesting Setups that I had to work with.. The car Has the PAL short arm conversion and PAL upped deck so you R2 owners...this will seem a bit different for set ups
anyways here it is
the

Front
Springs-1.5x5.5
Oil-400 or 40
caster-6 deg
toe-0
camber- 1.5-deg
normal shock pistion

Rear
Springs-1.4x5.25
Oil-500 or 50
toe-2-deg (new optional toe block from PAL the norm is 2.8)
camber- 1.0-deg
normal shock pistion

tires Sorex 32R
insert HPI Green
Body Stratus 2.0

This set up was for a medium Hi grip track that was fairly large
I`ll get some pics up tommorow

-Dave

You're lucky to be able to buy Kai chassis.
Is R2 pretty much different from R1?

Well the R2 is pretty much a revamp of the R1 .. ..they went and fixed all of the Chassis balance weak points sus arm weak points and front one way problems.. also they added a few new goodies like threaded shock bodies and a slightly thicker shock towers and upper deck

we finaly managed some outdoor racing at my club, only two rounds timed though since we were freezing our fingers off.

needed to raise the chassis height to around 8mm since the tarmac is kind of bumpy. I was running 15x4chrome motor which was ok but I was obviously disadvantaged compared to the few drivers using 12T's but with the one way I was able to show them up in the corners. With the two leaders crashing everynow and again I was able to keep on the same lap as them although my transponder wasn't working well, it seems the alloy strap is blocking it's signal. Will reduce the rear toe for next week, the car was pushing a little although grip was yet again good with CS22's.

Got my parcel from Steve today alloy battery strap looks very nice with the blue alloy posts, just needed to drill the strap holes to 4mm and now it's perfect. Also had time to fit the yokomo shock caps, liking them a lot too, less leaks and look nicer too

Now need to get the new 3300's built up, my 3000's are showing their age with poor capacity and don't think they'll survive 5mins with a 12T, they were strugling with my 15 I'll never charge NiMH's the day before I race again.

Finaly you'll show us your goodies

cells are Epic, never heard of them myself but Steve says they are good he made a mistake with some integy's so "found" these
one set has 619secs 1.206v at 20amps
second set 613secs 1.207v
they also have 30amp numbers so I'm not sure if they've been done at both rates or one is a calculated.
