I'll post what I like about the R2 soon but since you asked ... there are few things that I don't:

i.) The bearings in the shaft holder tend to work their way out indicating that the fit is not tight enough. It won't fall out since the shaft will keep it in. But they could have used a small set screw to hold in the bearings.

ii.) The position of the spur gear mount is not correct. Yes you can mount the spur gear on the opposite side but it makes changing gears a little bit harder since you will have to remove the the mount. It will also prevent you from using the supplied battery holders. The standard position will mean that the pinion barely reaches the spur unless you use a longer shank pinion or if you mount the pinion further up the motor shaft.

iii.) The battery holders were carried over from the R1 which really is not suitable on the narrower R2 chassis. You will need to remove some material from the battery holders to get them to fit. Problems with space is too be expected when you have such a narrow chassis like the R2 The car is 3-4mm narrower than my Evo3. Not really a problem if you prefer to tape your cells in.

iv.) The servo mount blocks are too big for the R2 chassis and will block the battery mounts. I swapped the blocks out for smaller alloy blocks from an old Tamiya kit and works fine.

v.) Not easy to get to the diffs for maintainence. Need to remove top deck, diff covers and alloy hubs.

vi.) Sanding of gears to obtain a smooth drive train.

Well lets see if I can address some of the issues for you

1) Well Steve made a good point to watch the ear's on teh 16T gear...but ..I'll through you some new idea... Some of my Japanese Buddys have found that you can use the older center shaft holder for front and rear like they have on the R1...they lave one less bearing in them and they have the bearing held in by set screw also the 16T gear is held in Place by a Snap ring collar. but I recommend that you only do this mod if you have the PAL?EXCEL Motor shaft holder

2) I have noticed this also.....But I know that the PAL/EXCEL Motor mount/shaft holder will center the Spur much better.. you might want to add this wish list

3) There is a what that you can have the battery holders work on the R2 but it requires a little bit of drilling ( good mod i might add if you don't like tape....also you'll need a set of plastic servo mounts to .)

4) There is a alloy Servo/Transponder mount that is available for the Barracuda that is verys strong and it allows you to mount 2 screws in the Servo on the side away from the center shaft... also with the new battery hold down Mod that I listed above you still be able to use the mount near the shaft.

5) ???? You can remove the diff with only taking out 5 screws .. I'll let you think about that for a second before I tell you how you can do it

6) you don't "NEED" to sand the gears to obtain a smooth drive train...... but it helps due to the fact that the gear pitch is so big ...what would you rather have Big Gears that are tought or Fine gears that break and are weak like the EVOIII and SD Yoke'

I hope this was able to touch on some of the issues that you had...I hope that I was able to help ...if you have more Q's just ask

Also I'll give you all the battery hold down mod trick abit later when I can

Getting them out is a breeze... You'll need a sturdy flat surface and 2 Flat head screwdrivers

1) place the holder on the flat surface with one tab pressed up against the edge
2) place one screw driver under the head of the 16T bevel gear to pop it up..
3) use this driver to press on the last tab to realase it from the 1st bearing

and BAM!!!!!!!! there you have it one 16T pinion out of the Holder....Seee how easy that was

I'm just back from my weekly indoor race, after thinking I wouldn't run the Cuda tonight I had my second diff and spare parts arrive, thanks Steve, I see you couldn't remember if you'd put some of you cards in or not found two bundles in the box, should come in handy.

Well I did a quick ish rebuild of the car, getting as much grit out as I could within the time I had and fitting the front diff.
Went out for some practise and thought I was going to be in trouble, I had no grip, then it dawned on me, I'd not changed wheels in my quick rebuild, I was running slicks on the slippy wood floor so I went back in a got the usual mini pins fitted. Went out for my first qualifier and the car was suddenly incredibly noisey and slow/strange to drive, so I pulled out before the start, as I walked to the pits I had a second moment of realisation, the crappy HPI three spoke wheels had big ribs in them and needed wheel spacers to clear the suspension arms so I finaly made it out for my second qualifier, car was very neutral, but on the first lap the car just stopped, I could steer but it wouldn't go forwards, then just as the marshal was about to pick it up the car went again, sticky brushes Lost almost a lap but the car was fine after that, the motor was down on power slightly all night since it needs a skim but it was fine for a fun night. So it was down to the last run to do a decent time, I managed 4th in the A final, very close to third, out of two almost full finals. Well after a messy first lap I was second last and then lost another place whilst trying to pass the driver ahead of me. So not a great start but from last I managed to get back up to fifth then my transponder fell out I actually managed to pass the guy in 4th as he made a few mistakes whilst the Cuda was solid as a rock I did get lapped in the final by the top three guys but once lapped I was hanging on to their rears and almost unlapped myself from 2nd and 3rd a couple of times.

I love my Cuda

my cuda too

certainly did have my hands full, even forgot my glass tape for the cells had the first pack already taped in, the last two I had to use duct tape cut down the middle and some insulating tape too, since the duct tape ran out and was a little short.
