Carpet season is starting up this weekend here and while I have several sets of purples/plaids and such I've been watching ebay and I can buy LOTS of the "Nitro" touring car foam tires for literally half (or less!) the cost of my "electric" foams. For example, whats the difference between Jaco Nitro Shoes and Purples if I get the same shore rating? Has anyone tried the nitro tires on carpet? How do they stack up?

I think they are made with a much 'denser' foam. The shore rating might be the same, but they won't get the grip on carpet. I tried some like these a few years ago when Treadz tires were still around. They worked ok later in the race, but they took several laps to heat up and start gripping. No one can afford to loose the first 3-4 laps of a TC race waiting for tires to start biting.

Yeah I too have to agree. even though a 40 shore is the same as a purple, your car handles completely different with the 40's instead of the purple.

Long story short stick with the Jaco's or TRC's

The nitro foams dont work too well as was said already, my preference is the Speedmind tires now, its the most traction i could find.

the nitro compounds are probably front compounds which dont have alot of grip. you should try GRP rear compounds, they come in 30mm wide and you can cut them to whatever width

I have heard that TRC's just use Ellegi foam, which is a subset of GRP, which as far as i know is what people term "Nitro Foams"

Remeber there is a major difference between front and rear compounds of foam. A 40F and a 40R are light years apart in terms of grip.

Not sure with the palin jaco foam, i never much liked running those outdoors, grip was not great and tire wear way too high.

I agree that the same shore rating Nitro (rear, not front) as indoor Electric is not a good idea. However, I have found that you can use a softer Nitro (rear) shore rating indoors and sometimes get both better traction and longer tire wear.

YES I HAVE USED 35,37 SHORE NITRO FOAM ON CARPET AND GET VERY GOOD TRACTION. GOOD FOR PRACTICE BUT THE JUST DOESN'T STEER AS FAST AS CARPET FOAM.

Nitro tires are made from a man made product, where as the TRC / Jaco / BSR's are made from a natural blended foam!

The natural blended foams wear faster but that is because they offer better grip!

Plus the nitro foams don't take compounds as well either.

what about the speed minds 35,37,42,45 front and 35,37,40,42,45 rear on ebay are those any good, i have seen some people running them on carpet and they have been doing good with them.

Also keep i mind most nitro races have a 2minute warm up where both tires and engines get to warm up
