***17.5 gearing help??***

Hi all, new to ep onroad , just finished building my tc5 kit just want to know what size pinion would be best for my application just using the stock 87t spur that came with the kit ATM..... I'm runing tekin rs pro esc and epic duo 17.5t motor running on medium to large outdoor ashpalt track trying to get this thing ready for tomorrow night lol:D any help would be appreciated.

Cheers azz28:D

A 87t spur is a bit small, but a 35t pinion should put you at 4.9 FDR. It's best to find out what the normal final drive ratio is at your track. Talk with the other drivers, so you're not too slow, or running the motor too hot.

check out www.comeseethis.com for a good gearing chart.

This site is not accurate for boosted (open ESC) setups. Seems fairly accurate for zero timing setups though.

eg. my 17.5 duo3 with tekin RS is geared at 6.0 FDR for super stock racing on a medium sized carpet track. Some guys go as high as 7. Outdoors on a large track I might lower that to 5.8

I'm currently using 48 boost (5xxx-18500 rpm)
12 turbo (Ramp 2, delay 0.02)
2 notches above 0 for endbell timing.
