How often do you replace your Universals?
After a season of modified touring my rear universals were pretty worn
out. The CVD crosspin or "joint pin" began to wear a groove into the bone itself and the "barrel" or "coupler" stretched out the bone's bore. I could rock the wheel back & forth because of the play that developed. A pic of a new pair without any stretching or worn groove. Question is, do you keep racing on it? I still pulled fast laps. http://i52.tinypic.com/2uf6pzp.jpg |
I'd continue to use em. Eventually 1/10 universals will come with sealed CV boots like the 1/8 buggies, but the difference will be that they will be filled with high-temp grease (like full-size CV tripods).

I've notice spools are extra hard on CVDs, but they're too expensive to keep replacing. I try to replace only what's needed. Maybe even rotate the front CVDs to the rear after a number of races.
