Both are competative platforms, each has their advantages and disadvantages.

I am not really sure.....I own both the Evo III (shaft) and the HPI Pro 2 (belt). The Evo seems to have acceleration off the line, but the Pro 2 seems have top end speed. It really have to come down to what type of track each car is ran on. That is my guess.........

Here we go again
As somebody stated, they have their advantages and disadvantages - Shaft has better acceleration but torqsteer, belt requires more maintanence, has less acceleration but no torq steer.

It basically boils down to how fast and how well you drive....
if you give Hara a radio shack car...I'm sure he can beat anyone with it..

I would say belt, as a shaft has a tiny gap betwee each teeth (when the diff and input gear are assembled), and belt is constant as one tooth follows another (that's why motor bikes have chains not shafts as it is constant), don't know if this is true but it's an opinion

The motor bike example is not a good example as harley-davidson and buell all use a belt drive...the shaft drive cars seem to be more snappy as the belt drive seems to be alot more smooth...............................OOPs i miss read that. you said shaft vs. chain ....... sorry.

The fact that there is no play in belt cars are not true...
If a belt car's belt was all tight without any slack, it wouldn't be very effiecient due to friction.

this is true.. its best that you try your self both a belt drive and a shaft drive car in the track then you decide w/c to get.. Your the one who can see its performance when you drive it in the tracks...

It basically boils down to how fast and how well you drive....

belt drive I prefer 414/415 trf and in shaft drive I prefer the FT TC3...

Maybe that is why own both, they may not be as advanced as the newer cars, but they both have pros and cons.....perfect for either type of track!

I am not the best driver anyway so in the end I still lose!!!!!

it depends if you mean fast, in regards to lap times. i race indoor carpet, and the track is very tight, with high grip. the shaft cars r at a distinct disadvantage. the belt cars seem to maintain speed through turns. when the pro 4 came out everyone switched to it, but that didn't last long. the common thought between al of us was that shaft is meant for paved outdoor tracks. there it was faster, but then again it all comes down to driver, driver ,driver, oh and set up has just a little to do with it.

Talking Physics 101 =

noise is wasted energy, so the quietest (and freest running) is the most efficient (best/fastest or whatever term you want to use) and that’s more of a construction thing not wether it's shaft or belt ie: in how you put it together.

Ok you can all go home now.

Well, based on the results of big races lately, it's a mixed bag. Xrays and Pro4s seem to be doing well. Mi2's, XXX-S, 415s and the TC3s were scorings wins too. So you really can't go wrong with the current crop of top cars be it belt or shaft. It's a toss-up.
