The tip moving back and fourth (as funny as that sounds).......Gibs that are Just slightly too loose can cause exactly that, If you end up putting a micrometer or the calipers on one of your finished comm's and it's cutting funny......re-adjust them on the tight side and then just slightly back it off a bit..(Remember it's only tenths and thousanths were talking about) This in combination with a slave motor that is in slight need of a re-build or just inherently not real smooth, can cause enough vibration by itself to leave a comm with one or more of the segments higher or lower than the rest.........Super high wind motors have increased life, but Vibration is the most important reason that the high dollar lathes switch to them..........Joe

thanks to everyone for all the info.. you can never have enough..

if it is the lathe or not,
I guess I wont know for sure until I get a dial caliper.

as for the gearing.....
I dont think I can get any more in my tc3..
at least not with the current spur.
