Default Running in the third main

Picture the scene, somehow everything has come together and you've done awesome, you've made the main event, the A-Main, all eyes on you....

...And by some combination of luck and skill, you've won the first two legs of the three, meaning you're the overall winner! Congratulations, may lovely ladies and champagne fall from the sky.....

But there's still the third Main to be run. Do you go out and take part, or stay on the sidelines? And why? So many times at major events we see the overall win wrapped up in the first two legs, so the winner doesn't take part in the last run of the day.

So what do you do in that situation? You've won, but do you run or not run?

i've only ever raced at events with 2 leg finals, but if I ever were in that situation, i'd not race.

There is nothing else to prove imo, i'd take a long 5 minute deep breath and a lot with the achievement of it.

I've seen both outcomes, and there's various reasons for it.. one could be to ensure a team-mate gets a podium spot, could be to get a clean sweep, may not run at all (no need)

personally, I'd run.

in the US under roar rules:

5.7.6 The winner of each class will be the driver in the A main who finishes with the most
laps in the least elapsed time, and whose vehicle is found to be legal on post race
inspection. A triple A main system will be used at electric Level 5 events and may
be used at lower level races. A driver who wins the first two A mains must sit out the
final main. Refer to Rule 12.3.7.3 for description of the triple A-Main procedure.

RUN IT!! It's FUN!

Why wouldn't you? I wait the whole week to race, plan the trip sometimes months ahead of time, make sure i have waaaay more spare parts than i actually need....ALL that work??
The adrenaline alone, not to mention the competition against the7-10 guys that made the trip with me......
Who cares if you won? You getting paid? Nope.... Fun is why, and fun i shall have.... Hahaha

Interesting, I don't know if that rule is also in the IFMAR/EFRA/FEMCA rules too, didn't know it existed.

If its a "Big" race you should not run. If its a club race you could run but not race for position. Maybe run without a transponder. You really shouldn't be out there at all so don't start trying to pass people who are still racing for position.

This is not a rule in the uk so you can do what you like in the last leg of a 3 leg meeting.

I'm running the third leg for 2 reasons:
1) I'm not getting enough track time between races, so I like to exploit every opportunity
2) I've been several times in situation that I've had 2 second places in the first 2 runs and DNF in last when leader is not running. The guy who has one third and wins the last final automatically gets second place although I've been running for 2nd the whole day and had just 1 bad run. So I would run the third leg as any else not to mix up other people results.

On the last ETS Semi-God Völker ran the third main after having won the 2 first. I was very surprised to see this, that's something he didn't do last weekend for the indoor euros for instance. I guess for "official races" it's mandatory to stay out the track when you've already won the overall race.

Interestingly he stops at 4.30. I think it was deliberate and that it gives him the best of both worlds : total intimidation over the competiton by showing you had an absolute an undisputable domination, PLUS by stopping early you are not interfering with the others' results.

Völker really is the man to beat.
