not sure about the fire code, but i kno there is an asphalt track inside of an old gas station in pa....its been there for quite a few years, so, its either okay, or theyre really good at hiding it

I see Wayne Vince was at the Asphalt Track today in Windsor. This is what he said.

I was there today for the afternoon to practice. It has amazing grip! Later on in the day, my car started to traction roll at the hair pin at the end of the sweeper. It only did it when I went deep into the corner and cracked the steering hard to compensate for my over driving. I was impressed! Got some lap times in the mid 9 second laps. Think 9.5 was my best but I seen a few 9.8's in a row. There was one other guy there (Dozer) with his 1/12 scale for awhile. So the track really didn't have much of a groove on it. I would imagine traction would be much greater when a full fledge race is held. I ran about 6 battery packs in my TC and all I did was change tires to try different combinations. I did not change my springs or oil from my carpet setup. It worked very well.

Dupont makes Ozite(the real thing) dupont discontinued the manufacturing of Ozite in large quantities for commerical use. Dupont now makes smaller amounts of Ozite for CRC exclusively.

Other companies name their carpets Ozite. but Dupont Ozite is the one and only.

I believe Ozite is good but if u are running 1/12 mod u will need tire sauce to get mad traction.

Ive been running asphalt for along time .. I did run on carpet for awhile .. Asphalt does have excellant grip if its done right .. There is a track SoCal out here that is in doors ( Asphalt) .. and its very fast to run on .. But I run parking lot most of the time .. Im running a carpet set up in my BMI XRAY .. on rubbers and have to say its dialed ... I guess its a matter of cost ..carpet or asphalt .. either way carpet wears then has to be replaced ,, Ashpalt just gets better and better for tracksion and doesnt wear out in doors ... All tires foams/rubber will wear .. try this .. put in the Asphalt for the summer months , then winter season roll out the carpet and cover both interest... My 2.6 cents...

Personally Ozite vs. Asphalt is like a baad game of rock paper sizzors....OZITE BEATS ASPHALT! (atleast outdoor asphalt...never raced indoor asphalt)

I honestly think a parking lot is NOT a place for an R/C car....Just my humble opinon

you can run off road cars in the winter wheres other racing surfaces can get wrecked

We've got a new indoor asphalt track opening in Livonia Mich. on Sept 11. The owner of RC Screws put it together and from what I've seen it's INCREDIBLE ! 50x100', 3" thick purpose laid track.
Nice clean building........ Too Cool !!!!

I think most UK drivers would bite your arm off if you offered them a good sized indoor tarmac track, I know I certainly would.
I've not raced on carpet a lot but enough to know I like the more "normal" levels of traction that tarmac has. Getting the car setup for the grip and temperature levels is half of what racings about (I just wish I was better at it )
It would also have to be rubber tyres for tarmac racing for me, yes they wear more than foams but rubber is whats used outdoors in the UK, especially in electric. Just seems to be a more natural combination...

Anyway, just a quick opinion from over the pond

Our local track explored all the options for indoor surfaces. Concrete was not really an option as concrete is extremely tempermental on temperature and himidity levels when it comes to traction. He checked on asphalt and found most of the local contractors said the asphalt would not cure indoors and the odor would be bad. Steve opted for ozite. He called CRC and got the new "Daytona" ozite that has a rubber backing which is much better than any of the previous carpets out. We have ran on it for a couple weeks now with no problems. There is ALWAYS traction. Rubber tires and foams work well. Plus now he has the option of running pancar oval and 1/12 scale which means more racers. Ozite may be expensive but it is less hassle in the long run and you have a wider variety of car/class options available.

The one carpet track I have run on has a problem.. It is filthy and the whole pit area is also. It comes from all the traction compound people have used over the years(possibly mixed with with tiny bits of foam from the tires. It takes me a couple days to get the crap completely off my hands. The car and all my equip has black finger prints and stains.

Rick I wil be trying G's again on Tuesday... you know I was there the first race day and I wasn't to crazy about ashphalt then since the grip was horrible and soo on. Well, I will see how it is now that the track is better and I will tell you which I prefer, ozite or asphalt...
