Default Decent starter kit?

I have been into nitro for about 15 years now but I would like to give electric a chance.

What is a good starting kit, preferably a fast onroad with decent tunability, but could be offroad.

I wouldn't want an RTR unless it already is 2.4ghz, I have extra servos at home and still have an Airtronics M8 so I don't need anymore controllers hanging around.

I just want something I can slap a nice motor in with some decent lipos and have a fun basher, but also a car that I can fully tune in case I want to slap it on a track. Something in between a traxxas rtr and an Xray full race car.

edit: looks like traxxas cars are alot better than I last saw them, the slash 4x4 ultimate looks nice!

I was also hoping I can get a decent kit, motor,ESC, and lipos for under $400 I already have a good battery charger that supports lipo, the radio, receiver, and servo.

is that price too low ?

maybe try the forsale section on rctech if you really stuck on trying to keepin the 400.00 range you can find some pretty decent deal once in a whille.as far as new goes the xray t3r is a good deal for a new car .unfotunally traxas doesn't build a good onroad car for the industry . you also want to find cars that have decent parts support in your area. that helps the local tracks and shops keep going... good luck on your search

The Tamiya TA05 ver.2 sounds like the car you're looking for.

Yep, same suggestion here. If there is an R- version of it, get that.
