Yesterday, we had a speed record day on a oval course, I drove a corally RDX with the new MMS3 speedo on 6 cells (same as KoPropo ) and a black series 7 turn. The car went 115 KMH about 71mph.. I had no problems with te speedo..

You can remove the terminal overload protection on jour vfs-1, it's verry simple and prevents the speedo to go in a overload protection to early. I didn't do it because I have no problems with it.. I wil see If I can post a sheme of the vfs-1 that i got from KoPropo

What profile were they running, a massive amount of other factors have to be included before you can blame the speedo.

I think the speedo is getting to hot but not sure?

guys if you are running the older VFS-1. if you have not modified it (im sure if you modify it personally, all warranties will be void) it will shut down if the following things are done incorrectly:

1. too aggressive of a set up. the stock set up is set at 36 across. going too far below this (say 17 or 18) will definitely heat up the ESC faster.

2. incorrect gearing on the motor... this will definitely overheat the ESC and shut it down faster.

3. driving style... a driver who drives more "punched" than someone who is smoother will definitely overheat it faster.

4. if the track temp is super hot (i raced yesterday, our track temp got up to 140 deg. F.) that heat is just coming off the asphalt and into the car. this will also contribute to the esc overheating.

Here are some solutions i suggest that can help cool the esc down:

1. put a heatsink on it. steve at speedtech has one. here's the link:
http://www.speedtechrc.com/store/ebp...nid=57&id=5243

2. put a fan ON TOP of the esc. the small fans work great. here's a link:
25mmx25mm: http://www.speedtechrc.com/store/ebp...id=395&id=5219

30mmx30mm
http://www.speedtechrc.com/store/ebp...id=395&id=5218

3. although the best solution would be to purchase the VFS-1 Competition. a more affordable solution would be to remove the cutoff as someone stated above. send it to Ko Propo so they can do it professionally.

4. run a more conservative drive profile
5. run a more conservative gearing
6. drive smoother

hope that helps guys.

So there is a way to bypass the thermal shutdown, or at least raise it, on the regular VSF-1? Can someone post how to do it? I know it will void the warranty but would like to do it anyway.

Here is a sheme of the koPropo vfs-1.. there are 2 ways to by-pass the terminal overload protection.. One is verry simple, you just cut the little wire in the 2 boards. the other is more difficult.. you have to remove the little ciruit chip en then fill it with solder thin..

Good Luck,

Bart

Matt- You should probably send it in for service to do it. If you try it (cut the thremo) yourself, you'll probably damage the PC board. Temp restistor for higher cut-off can be changed out, but will definitely require service.

zombies- The case will not be available. I've already tried to get some.

When using the KSC heatsink on the VFS-1, you will need to use 3 strip of heat transfer tape on the side where the VFS-1 logo is. The reason is because the heatsink will not sit flush with out it. The other option is the grind down the opposite side of the heatsink to fit properly. In testing, I have found that there is a 6% decrease in ESC temp with this heatsink. I have tested with another heatsink that was smaller and there was only a 2% decrease in temp. This was probably due to less mass in the heatsink and less SA. I can't really recommed it, but the facts I beleive speak for themsleves.

Can someone confirm if cutting the connection will work as it seem very easy. What is then the downside of not having the terminal overload protection? Would the chance to smoking the esc increase when running hotter motors like 7-8 turns?

Hara said that all of his Speedos has no thermal cutoff, and they're are not easily broken. I think the thermal cutoff is just being too safe.

So a heatsink is not needed than? I'll just buy a fan for it ^_^ So the VFS-1 Pro Comp comes with the big diode not the double shotki diode? And you only need the double shotki diode for modified racing 10t under right?

Hi,

When you remove the little connection you wil not have a terminal overload protection any more!! I heard most of the team drivers do this mod..We received this info from KoPropo so it must be good..
