I have had this problem since the 1st time using this ESC. Later I found it is better to NOT put the capacitor above the ESC. Now, it's running better but I still add small fan if the track temperature is high. So it is true then when Hara said that his got his KO thermal protection's shutted off.

i have the cap on top as well.. but i'll be moving it (to the side) since i have so much room in my car now...

stormperson: yup you shut her down the hotter motors like 6-7T will do that. the competition model should be out in a month or two. the carbon casing is trick

Been having this "thermal shutdown" problem for a while now.

Firstly you have to check your gearing make sure its spot on especially when running low turn motors in mod.

Next is changing the profile: eg, if you have plenty of torque turn the frequency down if you dont have enough torque and are having to pull the throttle HARD to get it to go any where you will have to turn it up in the bottom and middle sections of the profile.

I have also put on top of the speedo the "old" esc heat sinks (the ones where the fets came out the top of the esc), used some paper thin double sided tape and stuckj it on top of the case, works a treat.

Also went to the extreme of taking the esc out of the case ans running a fan over the top of it. CAUTION, this will void your esc waranty.

PS: I am still haveing this problem when running a 6 or 7 turn so please if anyone else has any ideas please let me know.

So how do guys like hara, rheinard, jilles and every top mod pro run the speedo with those turn motors and a spool? (i was just running a oneway, which i would assume heats up the speedo alot less since you arent standing on the brakes alot of the lap, you are lifting instead)???

I have been wondering the exact same thing since this problem occured, i can only say that it is in their profile settings.

WOW !!! After 2 hours of reading, i've learned so much about this esc. Thx guys for all your help. All the information and printing of all the key points of this particular esc will make it easier for me to program for my applications. Now, I can understand why some drivers in my area are ballistically faster than others in stock and 19T.

Yeah ive only once felt like i was down on power since i started running the speedo but that could have been anything, indoors on carpet on the smaller tracks it makes such a difference, and outside my car has so much mid range power its unbelievable.

Hey guys.
Does anyone know the factory settings of the Yokomo Masami version of the speedo? Im getting one in a few days and would like to know the stock profile settings. Any ideas?

2 More Q's...

1) What are the specs of the capacitor for the VFS-1? I wanted to see if I could find one with longer leads so I can rewire it so that its not covering the speedo

2) SInce I have lost my manual and cant find it on the website, what is the correc procedure for setting up the speedo? (ie for the radio so its the correct throttle and brake travel, etc...) I am fine with changing the settings though...

The cap is 4700uF at 25vld have to find the instructions for setting it up but i remember that all the throttle and brake settings on the transmitter have to be at 100%.

Does anybody have a copy of the Adapter Controller thing's manual available electronically in english?? We were only given 1 manual with ours and its in Japanese.

if you have a helios radio.. what i do is just use a "new model" from the radio. then adjust everything. sometimes i dont remember where i adjusted the throttle/brake. instead of trying to remember, use a new model memory.

as i posted in the Helios thread...

6 out of the 10 drivers in the A-main of the Invite class in last weekend's Reedy Race of Champions were using one version or another of the VFS-1 esc.

Groskamp, Hara and Rheinard - Hara Twister 2
Masami - Yokomo Masami VFS
Satoshi and Andrew Moore - VFS-1

another interesting TIDBIT.... the following companies have their own version of the VFS-1 now

- Corally
- Alex Racing
- Tamiya
- Yokomo
- Rayspeed
- Hara Twister

next to follow... X-ray?



and it just gets better with the new VFS-1 competition set to be released in the near future with a higher thermal cutoff and a trick carbon case
