Looking through all of the posts I didn't see any describing how to make the necessary cable to connect the VFS-1 to a PC. To buy the cable costs $54 on Shopatron which seems ridiculous for what you are getting. Does anyone know how to make this cable???

All it is is a serial port plug with a servo extention lead coming out of it. Have no idea how to wire it up. Wish they would come out with a USB verison. Make it much easier to use with my laptop.

i thought the same but there are components on a very small board in the gray case. it is not just wiring - unfortunately

i understand or overheard that there maybe a USB version in the near future - crossed fingers here

Im hoping for a USB version too, I had to dig my old laptop out of the closet to get a serial port. It might not be a bad idea to leave my good laptop at home and take the older one to the track though..

Default Fry's electronics

you really have two options for the VFS manager software.

1. buy a super duper old computer off ebay that has a serial. and just install the VFS manager there. a guy at our local track bought one of those old super tiny sony laptops (like 16mb of memory or something) and installed it on there. all he used it for was the software

2. buy a serial to USB hub and bring whatever laptop you have. this is what robert at Ko Propo does.

personally.. id opt for #1 since i dont want my good laptop at the track where dirt, motor spray and traction compound are all over the place.

a handheld programmer for the VFS-2000 is not compatible with the VFS-1. pc interface is. you just need to download the new software.

Can anyone tell me if the power capacitor and/or the Schotzki diode is necessary when running the VFS-1 in stock or 19T? What does the power capacitor actually do to the performance of the speed control?

Ive just got the handheld setting adaptor and the standard diode that comes with the VFS-1 as im only running stock so i judged the extra $35 for the double wasnt really worth the expense. Think ill slap one of Hebikis mad stock profiles onto it and see how she runs

Default VFS-1 PC cable

Can someone tell me the least exspensive place where I can buy the PC interface cable? Local hobby shops don't carry it. Thanks!

heheh.. i can get crazier with my profiles now since i got better chargers. let me know how it works.

oh ya.. follow the set up instructions to the LETTER to ensure proper operation. (i.e. diode on the motor, throttle trim set to 0 or 100% (helios) when you are setting the throttle, neutral and brake for the first time)
